
Track & Field Competes In Three Meets This Week

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane outdoor track & field program is set to compete in three meets this week as the program sends groups to the 114th Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa from April 25-27, to the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa on April 25 and the East Carolina Relays in Jacksonville, Florida from April 26-27.
The group that is competing in one of the two meets in Iowa is Elena Liano-Rengel (4x1600m relay, distance medley relay), Alex Sharp (5000m – KJO), Paula Vaquera (4x1600m relay), Paul James Pam (5000m), Roman Schrader (4x400m relay), Jalen St. Fort (4x400m relay), Illia Kunin (1500m), Danna Diaz (4x1600m relay 1500m, distance medley relay), Lily Bell (5000m, distance medley relay), Reese Ragland (1500m), Zander Dunbar (4x800m relay, 4x400m relay), Albert Tawil-Brown (5000m – KJO) and Sam Cohen (4x800m relay/800m - KJO)
The group that is headed to Florida is Brenda Ellis (5000m), Emma Simons (discus, shot put), Cosette Fleury (pole vault), Matthew Remondet (javelin), Francisco Roman III (400m, long jump, 4x400m relay), Payton Musso (javelin), Kaia Todd (100m hurdles, 200m), Sofie Groeninger (javelin, shot put), Alyssa Dismuke (discus, shot put), Alyssa Taylor (200m, 400m), Robyn Larkan (100m, 100m hurdles, 4x100m relay), Anna Schadel (800m, 1500m), Alan Deogracias III (5000m, 4x400m relay), Charles Henne (800m), Juan Giron (5000m), Kate Sander (pole vault), Norah Bice (discus, shot put), Kara Schiek (javelin), Lee Harris (400m, 4x400m relay), Dekel Regev (discus, javelin, long jump, 4x400m relay), Sofia Caruso (discus), Laura Fodor (400m, high jump, javelin), Patricija Ozolina (100m hurdles, high jump, javelin, long jump, 4x100m relay), Alexis Esteves (200m, 400m), Tolu Ajayi (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay), Bella Carroll (100m, 4x100m relay), Macy Turcotte (5000m), Lili Grant (5000m), Chase Cartwright (5000m), Adam Aldahir (5000m) and Parker Orlowsky (800m).
Last time out Jack Jennings ran the school's fourth-best men's 5000m time at the Wake Forest Invitational to highlight the action for Tulane's track and field team The team also participated in the Jim Green Track & Field Invitational in Kentucky last weekend.
Jennings' run of 14:03.01 ranks him fourth all-time in the record book in the 5000m just ahead of Emmanuel Rotich's mark of 14:04.8 set during the 2017 season. Jennings placed 28th overall at the men's 5000m invite in Winston Salem, North Carolina
At the Jim Green Invitational, Sofie Groeninger placed fourth overall with 4693 points. Her point total places her ninth all-time at Tulane in the event. In the individual events of the heptathlon, she was seventh in the 100m hurdles (15.66), seventh in the high jump (1.51m/4'11.50"), seventh in the 200m (27.20), second in the shot put (13.09m/42'11.50"), third in the long jump (5.31m/17'5.25"), third in the javelin (36.24m/118'11") and eighth in the 800m (2:34.54). Her shot-put throw ranks her10th all-time at Tulane in the event just ahead of Moji Alade throw of 12.51m from 2002.
The 4x100m relay team of Bella Carroll, Robyn Larkan, Patricija Ozolina and Tolu Ajayi placed eighth with a time of 48.10.
Alyssa Dismuke was the team's top finisher in both the women's discus (37.99m/124'7") and in the shot put.12.05m). Both marks were also a personal best for her.
Parker Orlowsky earned seventh in the men's 800m with a 1:56.09.
Laura Fodor placed sixth in the women's long jump with her leap of 5.61m/18'5". Kara Schiek finished fourth in the women's javelin with a throw of 38.61m/125'8". Robyn Larkan was the team's top finisher in the women's 200m with her time of 25.43. Roman Schrader took 13th in the 800m with his 1:55.55.
During 2022-23 outdoor season, the Tulane women placed sixth overall with 63 points at the AAC Championships. The finish was Tulane's best since 2016. The Tulane men finished eighth during outdoor season with 26 points. The program totaled nine All-Conference selections during outdoor season in Janae Dean (1st – women's 800m), Victoria Robinson (3rd – women's 800m), Kara Steele (3rd – women's triple jump), Mackenzie Callahan (3rd - women's 1500m), Aaron Gilliam (3rd – men's 1500m), Bradley Makuvire (3rd – men's 5,000m), Mackenzie Callahan (2nd – women's 3000m steeplechase), Maren Butler (3rd – women's shot put), Margot Temines (3rd – women's heptathlon). Kristen O'Handley ended the outdoor season by achieving All-American status in the Heptathlon.
Next week the program heads to Fayetteville, Arkansas to take part in the Arkansas Twilight at the University of Arkansas on March 3.
