Baseball’s Marget Drafted In 16th Round By Tampa Bay Rays
Jul 16, 2024 | Baseball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane first baseman Brady Marget was picked 486th overall in the 16th round by the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday afternoon on the third day of the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft.
Marget, a first baseman from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, led the team with a .331 batting average, 82 hits, 59 RBIs and 130 total bases while totaling 48 runs, 14 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs, a .524 slugging percentage, 40 walks and a .427 on-base percentage in 2024. He was also Second Team All-AAC in his junior season.
In his three years at Tulane, Marget has a career batting average of .312 in 166 games played with 113 runs, 187 hits, 32 doubles, three triples, 22 home runs, 116 RBIs, .485 slugging percentage, 82 walks and a .402 on-base percentage.
He is the third Tulane player selected in the 2024 MLB draft after pitcher Chandler Welch was taken in the sixth round (185th overall) by the Milwaukee Brewers and Colin Tuft was selected in the eighth round (249th overall) by the Baltimore Orioles. This is the first time since 2021 (5) that Tulane has had multiple MLB draft choices. Marget is the fifth Tulane player ever selected by the Tampa Bay Rays following second baseman Anthony Scelfo (2008), pitcher Kyle McKenzie (2014), pitcher Ian Gibaut (2015) and outfielder Grant Witherspoon (2018). Marget is Tulane's 17th MLB draft choice since the 2019 campaign.
Tulane's baseball team went 36-26 during the 2024 season, rolled to the team's second straight AAC Championship and earned a post-season berth to the NCAA Regionals for the second consecutive campaign. The program defeated Nicholls 3-0 in the regionals for the first NCAA shutout since 2005 over Rice in the Super Regionals. The victory was the first for the program in the NCAA Tournament since 2016 when the team defeated Utah by a 4-1 score.
