Men’s Basketball Wins Comeback Thriller Over South Florida, 73-70

New Orleans – The Tulane men's basketball team (9-8, 3-1 AAC), behind a team-high 15 points from Asher Woods, earned a thrilling 73-70 comeback victory over South Florida (9-7, 2-1 AAC) inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon. The team's 3-1 record in league play is the program's best start since 2022-23.
Woods shot 5-for-15 from the field including three threes. He also totaled four assists and two steals. Rowan Brumbaugh picked up 13 points, five assists and a pair of steals. Kaleb Banks chipped in with 14 points, a pair of rebounds and three steals. Gregg Glenn III had a steady all-around performance with six points, seven rebounds and a game-high six assists. Kam Williams totaled eight points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal. Mari Jordan tallied eight points and a pair of assists.
South Florida was led by 19 points from Jamille Reynolds. Quincy Ademokoya also reached double figures for the Bulls with 13 points.
The game featured 12 lead changes and four tied scores. Tulane held the lead for 14:58 of game time, while USF held the advantage for 20:54. Tulane shot 41,9 percent from the field (26-for-62), 46.7 percent from beyond the arc (14-for-30) along with 70 percent from the line (7-for-10). USF shot 52.9 percent from the field (27-for-51), 42.9 percent from three-point range (6-for-14) plus 66.7 percent from the free throw line (10-for-15). USF outscored Tulane 38-20 in the paint, 18-10 on the fast break and 26-17 off the bench. The biggest advantage for Tulane came on second chance points 16-8 and points from beyond the arc (42-18). In the game, Tulane totaled 28 rebounds, 20 assists and 10 steals. The 14 made threes for the Green Wave were the most in the conference this season.
The Green Wave trailed 37-34 at the break but rallied and outscored the Bulls 39-33 over the last 20 minutes. Tulane trailed in the second half by nine, 57-48, after a jumper from Jimmie Williams. Tulane then went on a 9-0 rally keyed by five points from Tyler Ringgold to knot the game up at 57 all. The back-and-forth game finally saw Tulane take the lead for good, 65-64, on Woods' jumper at the 3:09 mark. The lead hit four as Banks thundered home a dunk with 00:14 seconds remaining and reached as high as six with 00:06 remaining as Banks knocked down a pair of free throws, 73-67, before a late three from USF made the final score 73-70
Next, the Tulane men basketball team continues the homestand and hosts Florida Atlantic at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 15.
