WICHITA, KS – Amira Mabry registered her third double-double of the season as visiting Tulane held off host Wichita State 66-62 Wednesday evening in Charles Koch Arena.
The victory improved the Green Wave to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in the American Athletic Conference. The Shockers dipped to 7-12 and 1-5 in the league.
Mabry posted 20 points and 13 rebounds and was joined in double figures by Victoria Keenan (15), Sherese Pittman (14) and Kyren Whittington (10). Pittman (1,001) also went over 1,000 career points with three fourth quarter free throws.
Those were necessary on a night when the visitors found the going tough from both the charity stripe (12-for-26) and 3-point line (4-for-21). That said, Keenan, ranked ninth nationally in 3-point percentage, made four of her five attempts from the perimeter.
Point guard Kendall Sneed posted seven assists and four steals as well.
Salese Blow (20) and Jayla Murray (17) found double figures for the Shockers, before the latter fouled out. Jasmine Peaks paced the team with eight assists and seven boards.
Tulane came up big on the glass, outrebounding the home team 52-41. The Wave's bench was held scoreless compared to the 23 put up by WSU.
The Green Wave led for more than 36 minutes, including most of the final period after Mabry put back her own miss at the 8:56 mark to grab a 51-50 advantage.
The Olive and Blue's 4-2 mark through six conference games is its best since the 2019-20 campaign (6-0).
Tulane is back in action Saturday at 2 p.m. against Memphis inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Tigers (3-13, 1-4) dropped a 70-68 home contest to AAC leader UTSA (15-2, 6-0) on Wednesday after leading by 11 points with three and a half minutes to go.
