Green Wave Hits the Road for Matches at Wichita State and Rice

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane volleyball will look to snap a six-match losing streak this weekend as it visits the Wichita State Shockers and Rice Owls on Friday and Sunday. The Green Wave will take on the Shockers in Charles Koch Arena at 7 p.m. Friday before squaring off with the Owls at 1 p.m. Sunday in Houston.

The Wave rolls into the fifth week of league play with a 1-7 record in The American this season. Tulane fell in its most recent match on the road at UAB on Friday, October 17, by a final score of 0-3. The loss dropped the Green Wave to 1-4 in true road matches this season including an 0-3 mark against conference opponents.

Offensively, Tulane is paced by the duo of Avery Burks and Zoe Rachow. Burks leads the Wave with 317 kills this season averaging 4.34 kills per set while Rachow has led the way setting the table for the Green Wave with 501 total assists averaging 7.71 per set.Â

On defense for Green Wave, Dayla Ortiz anchors the team with 264 digs while averaging 3.77 per set and Sabrina Skyers patrols the net with a team-high 60.0 total blocks.

TULANE VS. WICHITA STATE
This marks the 15th meeting all-time between Tulane and Wichita State with the Green Wave trailing the series 6-8. The Wave has lost the last four matchups against the Shockers including a 0-3 loss in the lone meeting between the two programs last season. The last time Tulane defeated Wichita State was on October 23, 2022, in New Orleans by a final score of 3-2.

The Green Wave has not beaten the Shockers in Wichita since October 13, 2019, winning 3-2. Tulane holds a 1-3 mark overall against Wichita State on the road including losing in its last two trips to Kansas.

TULANE VS. RICE
Sunday's matchup will be 35th meeting all-time between Tulane and Rice. The Green Wave has lost five consecutive matches to Rice and trails the series 14-20 after falling to the Owls earlier this season at home 0-3 on October 15. The Wave holds a 7-14 in Houston against the Owls including two-straight losses on the road to Rice. The last time Tulane defeated the Owls in Houston came by a final score of 3-1 on November 10, 2013.

Tulane will return home to host UTSA and UAB in Uptown on Friday, October 31, and Sunday, November 2. The match between the Green Wave and the Roadrunners is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday followed by the rematch with UAB on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
