Green Wave Falls to No. 5 LSU, 101-71, in Front of Sold Out Crowd
Nov 17, 2025 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse was packed Monday night as the sellout crowd witnessed the Tulane Green Wave (2-2) women's basketball team push No. 5 LSU (5-0) hard for the final three quarters, but a slow first frame befell the Wave as the Tigers won 101-71.
The attendance tally of 3,621 is the largest for the program since January 2, 2008, which saw a figure of 3,690 against Nicholls. The fifth-ranked Tigers are the highest ranked team to visit Tulane since No. 2 UConn came to the Crescent City in January of 2019.
Despite LSU claiming the first quarter by a margin of 33-10, Tulane did not give in. Continuing to fight, the Wave kept the final three quarters tight, staying within a margin of 68-61 in those last 30 minutes. The Tigers shot efficiently with a clip of 55.1 percent and 42.9 percent from three. Tulane hit a mark of 34.6 percent and 25.0 percent from distance. Turnovers were pivotal in the contest as the Tigers won the battle, forcing 22 while committing 14. LSU secured 31 points off turnovers with Tulane getting 15. The Wave won the glass, however, 47-43. Tulane doubled up on offensive rebounds, securing 24 to LSU's 12 with two more second chance points, 17-15. The 43 boards mark LSU's lowest total of the season, and Tulane is the first team to outrebound the Tigers this year.
Freshman Mecailin Marshall had a breakout performance with 20 points to lead the Wave. This is her first double-digit scoring performance, let alone 20-piece. Marshall hit 4-of-8 from deep while adding four rebounds. Kanija Daniel was just south of double figures with nine points, and Amira Mabry and Kendall Sneed each scored eight. Dyllan Hanna led the rebounding efforts with 12 boards, one short of her career mark. Jayda Brown had a career-high seven rebounds. Tamiah Robinson tied her career best with six assists to top the team, and Sneed added five helpers. Tulane swiped eight steals with seven different players recording at least one. Robinson had two as the only player with multiple.
The contest opened with a quick sequence across the court that saw Kendall Sneed draw a foul and bury both free shots to strike first. LSU responded with a bucket to tie and then a three for the lead. Settling in quick, the Tigers went on a 15-point run to set an early tone. Kanija Daniel broke the spell with Tulane's first field goal at the 5:35 mark, but LSU would win the opening quarter 33-10.
Mecailin Marshall opened the second quarter with her first-career trey, but LSU had a response, which would be a frequent occurrence on the night. Tulane broke 20 with a layup by Amira Mabry about midway through the quarter, and Marshall followed with another three. However, LSU's response put the Tigers at 50 points for a 26-point advantage. Late in the quarter, Kendall Sneed buried a triple before an LSU layup. Daniel put home a three to end the half, but LSU remained in control, 58-34.
The Tigers put home the first score of the second half, but Sadie Shores immediately punched back with a three. After an LSU run, Marshall again connected from tbeyond the arc. Dyllan Hanna scored, and Marshall added a layup for a seven-point Wave run. Marshall continued her torrid third frame as a jumper brought Tulane to 50, but a three in response from LSU kept the Tigers ahead with 76 points. Though Tulane trailed the quarter just 20-18, LSU continued to hold firm ahead overall, 78-52.
Continuing to fight, Mabry began the fourth with a tip-in layup, but LSU had a three-pointer in waiting. Tamiah Robinson survived contact and hit her free throw for three the old-fashioned way, but LSU secured five in a row. The teams continued to trade buckets the remainder of the game as the initial deficit proved to deep to overcome. Sneed and Marshall highlighted the back half of the fourth with each making a three, but LSU stayed the course and claimed a 101-71 victory.
Tulane has wrapped up its opening four-game homestand and hits the road for the first time this season later in the week. The Green Wave will travel to Fargo, North Dakota, for a clash with North Dakota State on Friday, November 21. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Scheels Center.
