Wave Battles Florida Atlantic & UTSA this Weekend

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane volleyball will aim to bounce back into the win column this weekend as it welcomes Florida Atlantic to Uptown Friday before making the trip to face UTSA Sunday. The match between the Green Wave and the Owls Friday is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse while the road rematch with the Roadrunners is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Wave rolls into the seventh week of league play with a 2-9 record in The American this season after splitting a pair of home matches last weekend. Tulane went 1-1 earning a 3-2 victory over UTSA on Friday before falling 1-3 to UAB on Sunday. The Green Wave moved to 8-5 in home matches this season including a 2-5 mark against conference opponents.

Offensively, Tulane is paced by the duo of Avery Burks and Zoe Rachow. Burks leads the Wave with 377 kills this season averaging 4.19 kills per set while Rachow has led the way setting the table for the Green Wave with 640 total assists averaging 7.80 per set.

On defense for Tulane, Dayla Ortiz anchors the team with 336 digs while averaging 3.86 per set and Sabrina Skyers patrols the net with a team-high 78.0 total blocks.

This marks the eighth meeting all-time between Tulane and Florida Atlantic with the Green Wave trailing the series 3-4. The Wave has lost the last two matchups against the Owls including a 1-3 defeat on the road last season.

The Green Wave holds a 1-2 mark against Florida Atlantic in New Orleans after losing the last two meetings in Uptown. The last time Tulane defeated the Owls came on September 16, 2016, in Boca Raton by a final score of 3-2 and the Wave's last win at home over Florida Atlantic was on October 25, 2013, with a 3-0 sweep.

Sunday's matchup will be the second of the year and the 10th meeting all-time between Tulane and UTSA. The Green Wave has won the last three meetings against the Roadrunners after earning a 3-2 victory on October 31 to improve to 4-5 in the series. The Wave holds a 1-2 record in in San Antonio against UTSA including a 3-0 sweep in its last visit on Wednesday, October 9.

Tulane will close the regular season with a road trip to visit North Texas and Tulsa next weekend. The Wave will square off with the Mean Green in Denton, Texas, on Friday, November 14, before facing the Golden Hurricane in the regular season finale in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Sunday, November 16.
