Nov 8, 2025 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane men's basketball (2-0) rallied back to erase a 20-point deficit to come back and defeat Texas State (1-2) 79-71 Saturday afternoon inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. Rowan Brumbaugh led the come from behind effort for the Green Wave with a career-high 33 points including a 25-point outburst in the second half.
The comeback win by Tulane was the first of at least 20 points since December 18, 2017, when it overcame a 20-point deficit to defeat Nicholls 76-69. It also marked the largest comeback victory of the Ron Hunter era since the Wave beat Wichita State 95-90 in overtime on January 25, 2023, after trailing by 18.
The Wave had a record performance in the comeback victory from the free throw line. As a team, Tulane was a perfect 30-for-30 from the charity stripe to set a program record for the most free throws made in a single game without a miss.
Brumbaugh was a catalyst in the record as he set the program record for free throws made in a game shooting a perfect 19-of-19 from the stripe. The last player to post a perfect shooting performance from the free throw line on at least 10 attempts was Kaleb Banks who went 14-of-14 against Dillard on December 23, 2024.
Four players finished the contest with double figures in scoring for the Green Wave led by Brumbaugh's career-high 33. The redshirt junior also added a team-high six assists and four rebounds. Tyler Ringgold followed with his second-straight double-digit scoring performance with 14 points and a team-high seven boards. Rounding out the leaders for Tulane were KJ Greene with a career-best 11 points and Scotty Middleton with 10.
The Green Wave put the first four points of the contest on the board but quickly cooled off as the first half continued. Texas State took advantage with an aggressive attack offensively and defensively to take the lead. Tulane eventually faced a 20-point deficit at 35-15 with 4:15 to play before closing the half on an 11-4 run to hit the locker room down 26-39.
In the second half the Wave slowly chipped away at the deficit cutting it back to a one possession game at 54-56 on a three-pointer from Brumbaugh with 10:12 on the clock. Greene followed with a pair of free throws to tie the game at 56-56, but the Bobcats answered to pull back in front.
Josiah Moore gave Tulane its first lead since the 17:36 mark in the first half (4-2) dropping in a layup to put the Wave in front 67-66 with 3:37 remaining. The Green Wave never looked back after claiming the lead closing out the comeback victory from the free throw line 79-71.
Up next, the Green Wave will hit the road for the first time this season as it makes the trip up to Lafayette, Louisiana, to face the Ragin' Cajuns on Tuesday, November 11. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. from the Cajundome, with live coverage on ESPN+.
