Wave Welcomes Tulsa for Sunday Skirmish

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's basketball looks to rebound into the win column as it hosts the Tulsa Golden Hurricane inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse Sunday afternoon. The Green Wave has been staunch defensively at home this season holding opponents to 63.2 points per game and just 27.7 percent shooting from distance in Uptown.

The matchup between the Wave and the Golden Hurricane is set to tipoff at 1 p.m. on ESPNU. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 106.1 The Ticket and Heaven 106.7 with the voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.

This marks the 37th all-time meeting between Tulane and Tulsa with the Green Wave trailing the series 11-25. The Wave won the lone matchup against the Golden Hurricane 94-87 in overtime last season on Jan. 14, 2024, in Tulsa. Tulane holds a 6-8 record at home against Tulsa after beating the Golden Hurricane 93-77 in the last meeting on Jan. 4, 2023.

The Green Wave holds a 9-3 record at home so far this season including a 3-1 mark against American Athletic Conference opponents. Tulane is averaging 79.3 points on 45.2 percent shooting from the floor and 35.5 percent from beyond the arc in Uptown. Three players average double digits in scoring at home for the Wave led by Kaleb Banks with 19.3 points per game at home.

In its last time out, Tulane suffered its first home conference loss of the season falling 56-68 to No. 19 Memphis on Thursday, Jan. 30. The Green Wave held its last lead with just under 11 minutes to play when the Tigers hit back-to-back three to put Memphis in control of the contest the rest of the way. Rowan Brumbaugh and Kaleb Banks were the only players to reach double figures for the Wave as Brumbaugh finished with 19 points and Banks followed with 14.

Brumbaugh has scored in double figures for Tulane in 18 games this season including 17 consecutive contests. During that 17-game streak the Washington, D.C., native is averaging 15.6 points per game. Since the start of league play Brumbaugh leads the Wave averaging 17.1 points on 46.2 percent shooting with a team high 18 made three-pointers.

Tulsa enters the matchup with a 9-12 overall record and a 3-5 mark in AAC play after falling at home to UAB 68-78 on Wednesday, January 29. Four players are averaging double figures in scoring for the Golden Hurricane led by Dwon Odom with 13.8 points per game and Keaston Willis at 13.6 points per contest. Odom also paces the league in assists with 5.2 per game.

The Golden Hurricane has been strong on the glass so far this season leading the league in defensive rebounds per game at 26.90. Offensively, Tulsa likes to attack from beyond the arc averaging 8.7 threes per game on 26.7 attempts which ranks second in the conference.

Following the matchup with Tulsa, the Wave will hit the road to visit UTSA on Wednesday, February 5. Tipoff between Tulane and the Roadrunners is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
