Feb 12, 2025 | Baseball
Dallas, Texas – Tulane baseball's Jacob Moore was recently named to the 2025 Watch List for the 20th Annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball, the association announced Wednesday.
Moore, from Lacombe, LA, went 5-3 last season with a 3.00 ERA. He appeared in 26 games, struck out 45 in 42 innings pitched. He allowed just 34 hits and limited opponents to a .222 combined batting average and totaled a team-leading six saves. He was previously selected to the conference's Preseason All-AAC Team by the league's coaches and named of the top 100 relievers in college baseball by D1 Baseball.
He is one of 76 players that earned selection to the watch list this year. Of the 76, eight were featured on last year's midseason watch list. In total, 19 conference are represented on this list, with at least two players coming from 13 different leagues.
The Midseason List for Stopper of the Year will be announced on Wednesday, April 23. The finalists for the award will be announced on Wednesday, June 4.
The NCBWA, founded in 1962, presents the Dick Howser Trophy to the nation's top player and the Mike Martin National Coach of the Year to the nation's top coach. It also selects All-America Teams for all Divisions, a Division I Freshman All-American Team, Division I, II and III Players of the Week and Division I, II, III Players of the Year.
Tulane's baseball team, in a vote of the league's coaches, was picked for third overall with 63 points in the AAC's Preseason Coaches' Poll. The team also saw Luc Fladda, Moore, Gavin Schulz and senior outfielder Jackson Linn chosen as Preseason All-AAC. DI Baseball previously named Connor Rasmussen as one of the top 10 second baseman in the country, Schultz as one of the top 50 third basemen in the country, Linn as one of the top 100 outfielders in the country, Fladda as one of the top 150 starting pitchers in the country and Michael Lombardi and Moore were named two of the top 100 relief pitchers in college baseball
Tulane is fresh off a second straight NCAA Regional, 36 wins, and becoming the first program in AAC history to win back-to-back tournament championships (which includes 6 straight AAC tournament wins). The historic year over year turnaround was the first time since 1998-99 that the program has been back-to-back champions. Tulane has been to consecutive trips to the regionals for the first time since 2015-16. A win in the Corvallis Regional secured Tulane's first victory in a regional since 2016. Additionally, the program won nine weekend series, won the Pelican Cup, earned an 8-4 record against teams in Louisiana, had five all conference players with four more being selected in the June MLB draft. The four drafted players were good for third-most by a non-power conference school.
The team starts the 2025 season taking on Omaha in a home three-game series starting on Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m. The schedule will feature thirty-five home games in Greer Field at Turchin Stadium while only going on the road for twenty-one games. Tulane is set to visit a total of six different states this season with games in California, Florida, Mississippi, Texas, North Carolina, and Tennessee. This schedule will also include 2024 NCAA Tournament participants Nicholls, Southern Miss, and East Carolina.
