Baseball Projected To Place Second in the AAC By D1 Baseball
Feb 6, 2025 | Baseball
D1 Baseball Official Release
The Tulane baseball team was recently projected to place second in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) by D1 Baseball in their preseason conference preview. The team also saw six players that were named Top MLB Prospects for 2025 and had five that were listed as Impact Freshmen this season.
The Green Wave were predicted to finish second in the conference although it was noted that the team was one to keep an eye on in the league with at-large regional potential this season.
Tulane also had six players that were listed among the top 40 MLB prospects in the conference for 2025 in No. 8 Michael Lombardi – RHP, No. 12 Connor Rasmussen – 2B, No. 18 Jacob Moore – RHP, No. 24 Grayson Smith – RHP, No. 30 Hugh Pinkney – C and No. 33 Blaise Wilcenski – RHP. Tulane's group is the largest in the conference among member institutions.
Newcomer first baseman/designated hitter Boots Landry was listed as one of the top 15 2026 MLB Draft Prospects as he checked in at No. 10.
The team also had five freshmen that were listed among the top 30 in the conference in No. 14 Nate Johnson - INF, No. 16 Tanner Chun – OF, No. 19 Michael Devenney – RHP, No. 24 Jason Wachs – OF and No. 28 John-Paul Sauer – RHP. Tulane's five were the second-most in the conference.
Tulane's baseball team, in a vote of the league's coaches, was picked for third overall with 63 points in the AAC's Preseason Coaches' Poll. The team also saw pitcher Luc Fladda, relief pitcher Jacob Moore, Gavin Schulz and outfielder Jackson Linn chosen as Preseason All-AAC. Last week Connor Rasmussen was named one of the top 10 second baseman in the country by DI Baseball while Gavin Schulz was named one of the top 50 third basemen in the country also by D1 Baseball.
Tulane is fresh off a second straight NCAA Regional, 36 wins, and becoming the first program in AAC history to win back-to-back tournament championships (which includes 6 straight AAC tournament wins). The historic year over year turnaround was the first time since 1998-99 that the program has been back-to-back champions. Tulane has been to consecutive trips to the regionals for the first time since 2015-16. A win in the Corvallis Regional secured Tulane's first victory in a regional since 2016. Additionally, the program won nine weekend series, won the Pelican Cup, earned an 8-4 record against teams in Louisiana, had five all conference players with four more being selected in the June MLB draft. The four drafted players were good for third-most by a non-power conference school.
The team starts the 2025 season taking on Omaha in a home three-game series starting on Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m. The schedule will feature thirty-five home games in Greer Field at Turchin Stadium while only going on the road for twenty-one games. Tulane is set to visit a total of six different states this season with games in California, Florida, Mississippi, Texas, North Carolina, and Tennessee. This schedule will also include 2024 NCAA Tournament participants Nicholls, Southern Miss, and East Carolina.
