
Baseball Finishes Strong in 16-6 Win Over Jackson State

J.D. Rodriguez (2-1) threw four innings and allowed one unearned run with four strikeouts. Henry Shuffler surrendered four runs (three earned) in 0.2 innings work. John-Paul Sauer threw 1.1 scoreless innings in relief. Michael Devenney gave up an unearned run in his inning of work. Alex Ainsworth made his collegiate debut with a strikeout in a scoreless eighth.
The loss went to Brandon Haston (1-2) as he allowed six runs on six hits in two innings for the Tigers.
The offensive day was highlighted for Tulane by Boots Landry's first career hit (a home run) plus three RBIs. Brock Slaton hit a three-run home run plus scored two runs. Tanner Chun totaled a pair of runs scored and two walks. Jason Wachs scored two runs. Michael Lombardi walked twice, scored three runs and had an RBI. Connor Rasmussen totaled a pair of hits plus a run and an RBI. Matthias Haas picked up a pair of hits and runs scored. Gavin Schulz had a pair of hits plus a run scored and an RBI. Andrew McKenna had a hit, run scored and an RBI. Nate Johnson had a pair of hits and walks plus a run scored and an RBI. Kaikea Harrison walked and registered a run scored.
Jackson State scored first on an RBI single off the bat of Wilbert Perez in the opening inning.
The Green Wave quickly answered with five in the bottom of the frame on a triple from Lombard, single from Rasmussen, double from Haas, single from McKenna and a double from Johnson.
Haas drove in the sixth run of the game in the second with his ground out.
It was Haas again in the fourth with another run scoring double to increase the lead to 7-1.
Jackson State jumped back into the game with four runs in the fifth inning on Joseph Eichberger's single plus a single and throwing error on the ball hit by Perez.
Tulane put up a four-spot in the sixth on a three-run home run from Landry and a sacrifice fly from William Good.
Jackson State picked up a run in the seventh to stay within shouting distance at 11-6.
Tulane got the run back and one more in the bottom of the frame on a sacrifice fly from James Agabedis III and a single by Schulz to put the score at 13-6.
The Green Wave finished the scoring in the bottom of the eighth on the walk-off run-rule three-run home run from Slaton to make the final scored 16-6.
Next, Tulane welcomes in Xavier University (7-11) for a three-game weekend series starting on Friday, March 14, at 6:30 p.m. on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
