Pitching Matchups
Tulane is slated to start lefty Luc Fladda in the opener on Friday evening against the Musketeers. Fladda has been the team's Friday starter in each of the first four weekends of the season. He is 0-1 on the campaign with 28 strikeouts in 21.2 innings worked and only two walks. The 6-1 lefthander went 5-3 last year in his first season as a member of the Green Wave, sporting an earned run average of 4.77 with 61 strikeouts and 21 walks in 83 innings.
The second game on Saturday will see Tulane start 6-8 righty Trey Cehajic. Cehajic is 3-1 on the year with a 2.57 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched. He worked as the team's Sunday starter in each of the first two weekends but moved up a day in the rotation for the last two series against Pepperdine and North Dakota State. He is coming off his best start of the season where he worked a career-high six innings against the Bison in limiting them to two runs. Cehajic hails from Shreveport, Louisiana and is in his second year with the program. As a junior he worked exclusively out of the bullpen in his 19 appearances. He placed second on the team with four saves while totaling 15 strikeouts in 27.1 innings thrown and a 0-2 record.
The Sunday starter for Tulane is to be determined at this point depending on the results and bullpen use in the two earlier games of the series.
The Musketeers will counter with Ryan Piech on Friday, Luke Hoskins on Saturday and Ben Weber on Sunday. Piech is 1-1 on the season with 21 strikeouts in 18 innings worked. He has only allowed 13 hits and opponents are hitting .200 against him. Hoskins is looking for his first decision of the season in what will be his seventh appearance and first start of the campaign. He has struck out 15 in 11.1 innings worked with a 7.15 ERA. Ben Weber is 1-2 on the year with 16 strikeouts in 21 innings worked. Â
Scouting Xavier
Xavier (7-11) has played a very difficult schedule that has seen the team play road/neutral site games against Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Oregon State, Indiana and LSU already this year. The Musketeers played against LSU (L, 18-4) and Southeastern Louisiana (L, 7-4) earlier this week before the weekend set with the Green Wave. The Musketeers have lost six in a row and will play the team's first home games of the season in Ohio next weekend. Xavier last made an NCAA Regional in 2023 in Nashville. Jake Lambdin leads the offensive attack for Xavier with his .344, 15 runs and 21 hits. Carter Hendrickson leads the club with 16 RBIs. Ben Weber has been the team's best pitcher with seven appearances, 21 innings pitched and 13 strikeouts and a 1-2 record. Billy O'Connor is in his eighth year as the head coach.
Series History
Tulane is 10-0 all-time against Xavier (OH) since the first meeting in 1970. The teams last met in 2015 with the Green Wave earning a 10-3 victory in the last of a home three-game set that saw Tulane win a pair of one-run games in the first two games of the set (3-2 and 1-0).

The Green Wave are 26-14 all-time against current schools in the Big East Conference. The first ever meeting with a current Big East Conference member was against Xavier in 1970. The team last faced a Big East Conference opponent in 2023 when the program won the final game of the three-game set against St. John's by a score of 9-3. Tulane's most victories against a Big East opponent is 8 against UConn with the majority of the games having been played when both schools were part of the AAC before the Huskies departed.

Notables From the Midweeks Against Nicholls and Jackson State – 3/11-12
Tulane is 3-0 against in-state competition on the year after the 9-5 victory over Nicholls (3/11). The Green Wave improved their all-time record to 69-27 against Nicholls and 306-162 against current members of the Southland Conference. The grand slam against the Colonels for Connor Rasmussen was the first for a Tulane player since Jackson Linn hit a grand slam against Florida Atlantic last season in the AAC Conference Tournament. The grand slam was the first for Tulane in a home game since Rasmussen hit a grand slam against Northwestern in the season opening series last year (2/18/24). Tulane is now 5-0 in midweek games this season after the 16-6 victory over Jackson State (3/12). The program has scored nine or more runs in nine games on the year. Tulane has homered at least once in the last five games including two long balls against the Tigers. The three-run home run for Boots Landry in the sixth inning was his first career hit. The win improved Tulane to 22-3 all-time against Jackson State and 73-6 against Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) competition. Redshirt freshman pitcher Alex Ainsworth made his collegiate debut with a scoreless eighth inning. Tulane is 13-4 in the season for the first time since also going 13-4 to start the 2011 campaign. The team's only better starts over the last 25 years was when the 2001 and the 2005 squads both started the season 14-3. The 2003 team, just like 2011 and this year, also started the season by going 13-4.
