TULANE GAME NOTES
New Orleans, LA - The Tulane baseball team (15-5) keeps the 12-game homestand going and welcomes Lamar (15-7) to Greer Field at Turchin Stadium for a midweek game on Tuesday, March 18, at 6:30 p.m.

The game will be streamed on ESPN+. The Voice of the Green Wave, Corey Gloor, will call the action on Tuesday on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 88.3 WRBH/Varsity Network. Airtime for radio for all three games is 15 minutes before first pitch.
Promotion
On Tuesday the promotion will be Double Play Tuesday (2-for-1 tickets) plus $3 hot dogs
Pitching Matchups
Tulane is expected to start J.D. Rodriguez on Tuesday. Rodriguez is 2-1 on the season with a 3.60 ERA in 15 innings pitched with 14 strikeouts. He has worked both as a starter in the midweek and also been part of the weekend rotation this season. This will be his seventh start of the year on the mound. He has limited opponents to a .200 batting average.
The game starter on the mound for Lamar has not been announced.
Scouting Lamar
Lamar (15-7) have won five of the last seven even after losing two of three in the series to McNeese State over the weekend. Among the team's 15 wins are victories against Tulane 2025 opponents North Dakota State and Rice. The Cardinals are 10-1 at home this season and 3-6 on the road. The team has an overall batting average of .320. Damian Ruiz spearheads the attack and is hitting over .412 to go along with 35 hits, 30 runs scored, 12 doubles and 19 RBIs. Heladio Moreno is also batting over .400 (.408) with 31 hits. Tracy Tab is hitting just below .400 on the year (.390) with 30 hits. Brayden Evans leads the club with his five home runs and 24 RBIs. Austin Neal has been the team's best relief pitcher with his 18 strikeouts, 2.13 ERA and a save in six games. Riely Hunsaker has been the top starter on the club with a 2.84 ERA plus 24 strikeouts in 25.1 innings pitched. Will Davis is in his ninth year as the head coach.The Cardinals, under his direction, won the 2024 Southland regular season title and posted an overall record of 44-15 while he was named the SLC's Coach of the Year.

Tulane is 14-6 all-time against Lamar since the start of the series in 1973. The teams last meet in 2020 with Tulane taking both games of the midweek series by scores of 14-12 and 6-3. Those would be the final two games play by Tulane that season being COVID-19 canceled the remainder of the campaign.
The Southland Conference
The home game against Lamar is the fourth of nine games against the Southland Conference opponents this season for Tulane. The program defeated Southeastern Louisiana 5-3 on Feb. 19 in Hammond, Nicholls 13-3 on Feb. 25 in Thibodeaux and Nicholls again by a 9-5 score on March 11 in New Orleans to improve the team's all-time mark to 306-162 against current schools in the SLC.
Last Time Out
The Tulane baseball team (15-5) won the team's fourth series of the season with a 5-4 back-and-forth home victory over Xavier (8-13) on Sunday, March 16, on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. Tayler Montiel (1-0) earned the victory with three innings of relief in which he surrendered just one hit and one unearned run with four strikeouts. Michael Lombardi was called upon and delivered again in the ninth with his fifth save of the season. He struck out a pair of Musketeers and surrendered just one hit. Will Clements started for Tulane and threw three innings with one run allowed. Carter Benbrook followed with a pair of scoreless frames. Jacob Moore entered next in relief and surrendered two runs without being able to record an out. Tulane took the team's final lead in the seventh inning on a sacrifice bunt from Lombardi. Connor Rasmussen led the offense for Tulane with three hits. Nate Johnson had a pair of hits and run scored. Gavin Schulz, Matthias Haas and Hugh Pinkney all registered a hit. Schulz, Rasmussen, Lombardi, Pinkney and Tanner Chun all tallied a run scored.
Notables From the Xavier Series
Luc Fladda set a new career high with his nine strikeouts during Friday's game against the Musketeers. The Green Wave pitching staff combined to recorded 14 total strikeouts on Friday. That first game marked the 12th time this season that the pitching staff had registered double digit strikeouts. In the first game of the series on Friday, Tulane was held without an extra base hit for only the second time this year (Pepperdine – 3/1). Logan Hurd appeared in the game in relief in the ninth inning for his first appearance of the season on Saturday. With his appearance, all 21 of the team's pitchers have now gotten into the game this year. Connor Rasmussen extended his on-base streak to 18 with three hits in the final game of the series. It was Rasmussen's eighth multi-hit performance of the season. Michael Lombardi had the rare feat of driving in the game-winning run and also picked up the save on Sunday. Lombardi saved two of the three games of the series with 2.2 innings thrown and six strikeouts. He now has 10 career saves including five this season. He is just two saves from joining the top 10 at Tulane and tying Christian Colletti, D.J. Ponder, and Juan Ibieta with 12. Tayler Montiel tied his career-high three innings in the Sunday game (previously 3.0 vs. UNO – 2023). He also set a new career-high with four strikeouts. Montiel has yet to appear in any game that Tulane didn't earn the victory in this season. The win improved Tulane to 12-1 all-time against Xavier. The program is 28-15 all-time against current schools in the Big East Conference. Tulane is 15-5 on the season which is the best start since 2011 when the program began things 16-4.
Lombardi Named to AAC's Weekly Honor Roll – Week 5
Michael Lombardi led Tulane to 4-1 record on the week including a series victory over Xavier over the weekend. He played a pivotal role in a pair of victories on the mound for Tulane in registering saves in two of the three games against the Musketeers. On the week he threw in two games, 2.2 innings while striking out six and only surrendering a hit and a .111 batting average against. In the first game of the series against Xavier (3/14), he entered the game with one out and the bases loaded, and Tulane holding onto a three-run lead and proceeded to record a pair of strikeouts to get out of the jam. In ninth he saw only three men and recorded two strikeouts to pick up his fourth save of the season. In the third game of the series against Xavier (3/16), he again entered the game in a high-pressure situation with Tulane holding a 5-4 lead in the ninth inning and induced a ground out and then back-to-back strikeouts with the tying run on second base for his second save of the week and fifth of the season. Lombardi has now thrown in nine games and 10 innings this season while recording 22 strikeouts. His five saves this season gives him 10 in his career and moves him just two from reaching the top 10 in school history. Also he started in centerfield or first base in all five games on the week while recording eight runs scored and five walks with a pair of RBIs and hits. It is the second time that he has been honored this season by the AAC with weekly recognition and the fourth time overall that a Tulane player has been honored by the conference.
