
Baseball Loses 25-7 to UTSA

Tulane gave up runs in every one of the first five innings including 11 runs in the second inning. The team walked 15 in the contest while also giving up 16 hits, 25 runs and hit four batters.
Will Clements started on the mound for Tulane and surrendered four runs on four walks in his inning plus. Blaise Wilcenski (3-3) was the first arm out of the bullpen. He only lasted 0.2 of an inning before surrendering four hits and six runs in taking the loss. Gavin Smith was the next call to the pen and allowed two runs on one hit and walk without being able to record an out. Michael Devenney was then inserted to try to stem the tide in the second and got the final out in the frame. He ended up allowing four runs in a full inning worked. Jacob Moore then entered and went 0.1 scoreless. Wes Burton walked four in his 0.1 of an inning in allowing four runs. Grayson Smith was the next man up for Tulane and threw 0.2 scoreless. John-Paul Sauer was the eighth pitcher for the Green Wave. He was unable to record an out while surrendering two runs. J.D. Rodriguez was the team's ninth pitcher and surrendered four runs on five hits without being able to record an out. Julius Ejike-Charles was the squad's 10th pitcher thrown. He ended the run-shortened game with two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
Jason Wachs led the team with three hits and two runs. Tanner Chun hit a two-run home run. Connor Rasmussen totaled three hits. Hugh Pinkney had a hit. Michael Lombardi picked up a hit and a run. Kaikea Harrison also totaled a hit and a run scored. William Good had a hit and an RBI.
The win was earned by Conor Myles (4-1). Myles allowed five runs in five innings worked.
The Green Wave scored first with a tally in the first on a bases loaded wild pitch strikeout to score Wachs from third.
UTSA tied the game in the bottom of the frame after two outs on the bases loaded walk to Jordan Ballin.
Tulane took the lead back, 4-1, with three in the second inning on a two-out double from Wachs and a two-run home run from Chun.
The Roadrunners quickly tied the game up again, 4-4, in the bottom of the frame on Norris McClure's three-run home run. The team took the lead later in the frame on the bases loaded walk to Ty Hodge, the grand slam by Diego Diaz followed by the two-run shot from McClure and a solo shot from Mason Lytle to make it 11 runs in the frame.
UTSA added three more runs in the third, 15-4, on the single from Diaz, a bases loaded walk to McClure and a single from Lytle.
The Roadrunners added four runs to the lead in the fourth on a bases loaded walk to Diaz, the ground out by Drew Detlefsen, a single from McClure and base hit from Lytle.
Tulane made it a 19-5 lead for UTSA with a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Haas.
UTSA topped the 20-run mark for the game with six more runs in the fifth inning to put the score at 25-5.
Wachs drew the team a run closer, 25-6, with an RBI single in the sixth.
Good poked a single though the left side to make the final score 25-7.
Next, Tulane travels to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take on Southern Miss at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22.
Notables
The loss dropped Tulane to 4-8 all-time against UTSA…The 25 runs allowed was a season high for the program…Tanner Chun's home run was his team leading seventh of the season.
