
Baseball’s Huge First Inning Leads to 20-5 Victory over ECU

GREENVILLE, NC – The Tulane baseball team (25-17, 9-7 AAC) had the program's biggest offensive outing of the season in a 20-5 victory over East Carolina (24-18, 9-7 AAC) on Friday night, April 25, at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
Tulane exploded for nine runs in the opening inning. The team added three runs in the third, two more in the fourth and finished off their scoring with six runs in the fifth in the run-shortened seven inning victory.
Luc Fladda started for Tulane (3-4) and allowed five runs in seven innings with three strikeouts to earn his third win of the season and first complete game.
Gavin Schulz led the offense with his three hits, four runs and four RBIs. Kaikea Harrison also had a memorable performance with three hits, four runs and three RBIs. Matthias Haas picked up two hits, two runs and three RBIs. Michael Lombardi hit a grand slam to drive in four runs. Jason Wachs had a hit and a run scored. Hugh Pinkney had a pair of hits, runs scored and RBIs. Connor Rasmussen put up two runs, two RBIs and a hit. Tanner Chun had a run scored and an RBI. James Agabedis III scored a pair of runs with a hit. Theo Bryant IV had a run scored and an RBI.
Brad Pruett (3-4) started for ECU and surrendering nine runs on six hits in 0.2 of an inning before getting chased to take the loss.
Tulane scored first with nine in the first inning on a two-run single to right from Haas, a bases loaded walk by Bryant, a two-run single from Harrison, a two-run double from Schulz and a two-run single from Rasmussen.
The Green Wave scored three more in the third inning as Haas was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, followed by a bases loaded walk from Pinkney and finished on the sacrifice fly from Chun.
Schulz added two more runs to the Tulane lead with his home run in the fourth inning to put the Green Wave up 14-0.
The Green Wave added six runs to the lead in the fifth inning on a Pinkney double, a grand slam from Lombardi and a solo home run from Harrison to go up 20-0.
The Pirates scored five runs in the bottom of the frame on Nick Parham's home run, a three-run home run from Dixon Williams and solo home run from Michael Kalinich to make the final score 20-5.
Next, Tulane plays the second game of the series against the Pirates starting at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday.
