
Baseball Falls 12-1 To Charlotte On Friday

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane baseball team (30-23, 13-13 AAC) lost the club's third straight game in a 12-1 loss to visiting Charlotte (34-20, 17-9 AAC) on Friday night, May 16, on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Michael Lombardi started for Tulane and tossed a pair of scoreless innings with a strikeout. Carter Benbrook (2-1) was the second pitcher used by Tulane. He allowed just a run on a hit in two innings in taking the loss. Will Clements gave up six runs in 0.2 of an inning with a strikeout and a walk. Blaise Wilcenski was the team's fourth pitcher of the evening. He allowed four runs in 2.0 innings on the hill. Gavin Smith closed out the run-shortened seven inning game allowing a run in 0.1 of an inning.
Tulane was limited to three hits, three hit by pitches and five walks in the game. Jason Wachs, Gavin Schulz and Hugh Pinkney had the team's hits. Nate Johnson walked twice. Tracy Mitchem scored the team's run. The other walks were drawn by Schulz, Brock Slaton and Connor Rasmussen. The hit by pitches were by Matthias Haas, Mitchem and Kaikea Harrison
AJ Camp (6-0) was credited with the win in throwing 3.2 innings out of the bullpen with four strikeouts for the 49ers
Charlotte's Logan Poteet untied the scoreless game in the fourth inning with a home run.
The 49ers added six runs to the lead in the fifth on Spencer Nolan's base hit, Â a single up the middle from Caleb Estes, a three-run double from Connor Maryniak and a Dawson Bryce RBI single.
Charlotte increased the team's lead to 12 in the seventh on Juan Rivera's home run, an RBI single by Chandler Riley and a three-run home run from Nolan.
Tulane scored the team's run on a bases loaded walk by Slaton in the bottom of the seventh.
Next, Tulane plays the final game of the series and in the regular season against Charlotte starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The team will honor the club's 14 seniors in a post-game ceremony.
