
Baseball Loses 8-2 in the AAC Championship Game

CLEARWATER, FLA – The No. 5 seed Tulane baseball team (33-25) fell by 8-2 score to No. 6 seed ECU (33-25) on Sunday, May 25, at the BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Fla. in the AAC Baseball Championship Game. The defeat for Tulane was the program's first loss in the last 10 games played in Clearwater.
Michael Lombardi (4-1) started for Tulane and went the first four innings with six strikeouts and four run allowed. Will Clements was the first reliever in for Tulane. He allowed two runs (one earned) without being able to retire man. Blaise Wilcenski was the team's third hurler and surrendered two runs (team unearned) in two innings worked. Jacob Moore was next man up for the Green Wave. He threw three scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
Gavin Schulz led the offense for Tulane with three hits, a run and an RBI. Jason Wachs totaled a hit and an RBI. Theo Bryant IV had a pair of hits, a walk and scored a run. Tanner Chun totaled a hit.William Good drew a walk.
The win was earned by ECU's Sean Jenkins (4-4). He allowed one run on four hits in 5.1 innings worked.
ECU scored two runs in the opening inning on Jack Herring's two-run home run to the opposite field.
The Pirates added a run, 3-0, in the fourth on Ryley Johnson's RBI ground out.
ECU put up five runs in the fifth on a Burress two-run double, an RBI single from Herring and a two-out double from Johnson.
Tulane broke through for a run in the sixth inning on Schulz sixth blast of the season.
The Green Wave cut a run into the lead on an RBI ground-run double from Wachs. The ball was originally called a three-run home run but upon review was found to have only cleared the first instead of the second fence.
