Wave Heads to Oklahoma for Schooner Fall Classic

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane golf will hit the road this weekend for its second tournament of the fall as it travels to Norman, Oklahoma, for the Schooner Fall Classic. The three-day tournament will be hosted by Oklahoma from Saturday to Monday, September 20-22, at the Belmar Golf Club.

In the first tournament of the season for the Green Wave three different players recorded rounds under par at the Sam Golden Invitational in Corinth, Texas. Sophomore Francesca Pompa led the way for Tulane shooting two rounds under par with a 71 (-1) in her first round and a 70 (-2) in her final round. Joining her shooting at least one round under par were Sophia Macias with a 70 (-2) in the first and Tonka Zacharovska with a 70 (-2) in the second.

As a team the Wave placed 13th at the Sam Golden Invitational posting a three-round total of 875 (+11). Pompa landed as the highest individual at the tournament for Tulane tying for 41st overall with a two-day score of 216 (E).

Tulane will feature four of the same starters from the previous tournament this weekend as Pompa, Macias, Zacharovska, and Gabriella Gilrowski will be joined by Cristina Albertazzi.

The Schooner Fall Classic will begin two rounds and 36 holes of action on Saturday due to the forecast of weather in the area on Sunday. The Wave will tee off as part of a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. Saturday. Tulane will be paired with players from Texas State and Arkansas for the first round of action.

In addition to the Green Wave, the 16-team field includes Texas State, Virginia Tech, Iowa State, Houston, Georgia, Kansas State, Florida State, Arkansas State, TCU, Central Florida, Tulsa, Oral Roberts, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State, and the host Oklahoma.
