Tulane Takes First & Second in Sugar Bowl Fleet Races

NEW ORLEANS – In its first home regatta of the season the Tulane sailing team claimed first and second place in the Sugar Bowl Open and Women's Fleet Races on Lake Pontchartrain on Sunday. The Green Wave earned its second consecutive victory in the Sugar Bowl Open Fleet Race while landing second behind Stanford in the Sugar Bowl Women's Fleet Race.
In the open fleet races the Wave finished with 189 total points through 14 races to beat the next team on the water by 37 points (Stanford, 226). Tulane was paced in the regatta by skipper Hamilton Barclay and crew Taylor Bartell in the B Division. The duo ended with a total score of 37 to lead all sailors across all divisions.
Next in the standings for the Green Wave in the open regatta was the grouping of skippers Christian Ebbin and Tate Christopher with crews Sabrina Anderson and Hope Breslin in the A Division. The group landed third overall with 71 points as Ebbin raced with Anderson through the first eight rotations before Christopher and Breslin ended the regatta in the final six races.
Rounding out the open fleet races for Tulane was the C Division which finished fifth with 81 points behind the racing of Kelly Holthus with Jonah Wozniak and John Wood with Charlotte Casey.
Meanwhile, the Green Wave placed second overall in the women's fleet races with a total score of 221 across 14 races. The A Division duo of skipper Ava Anderson with crew Ella May Corckran led Tulane in the women's regatta landing second with 55 total points.
The pairing of skipper Gabriela Vassel and crew Skye Terrell in the C Division were the next in the standings for Tulane posting a total score of 81 in 14 races to place fifth overall.
Over in the B Division Oakley Cunningham paired with Caroline Caudron and Lola Kohl raced with Sabrina Casagrande to follow right behind the Wave duo in the C Division finishing sixth with 82 total points.
Up next, Tulane will hit the road for a pair of separate regattas in the northeast. The Green Wave will compete in the Women's ACC Semifinals in Annapolis, Maryland, and the Danmark Trophy in New London, Connecticut, on Saturday and Sunday, September 27-28.
