LMU Rallies In Eighth To Defeat Baseball, 6-4
Feb 14, 2026 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES - The Tulane baseball team (1-1) surrendered four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to fall 6-4 to Loyola Marymount (1-1) on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 14, at Page Stadium.
The Green Wave offense pounded out 13 hits and the pitching staff recorded 11 strikeouts in defeat. The game's biggest turning point came in the eighth inning when a would be LMU runner was originally called out on his steal attempt with two outs and the Green Wave leading 4-3 only to have the call reversed after a lengthy review and discussion by the umpiring crew.
Will Clements (0-1) was tagged with the loss after giving up two unearned runs in his inning of relief work. Beau Sampson started for Tulane and was steady with three hits allowed in 4.1 innings pitched while striking out nine. Blaise Wilcenski was the first reliever in for Green Wave. He went 2.2 innings with two runs allowed (one earned) and two strikeouts.
Kaikea Harrison had his second three-hit performance of the weekend. AJ Groeneveld and Matthias Haas also had three hits each. The team's runs were driven in by Tye Wood, Jason Wachs and Nolan Nawrocki.
Loyola Marymount scored first on the two-run home run from Jackson Wall in the third inning.
Tulane scored a run in the fifth inning on a Wood sacrifice fly to cut the deficit in half, 2-1, and score Haas from third.
The Green Wave took the lead in the seventh inning. Wachs had an RBI ground out to score Harrison with the tying run and was followed by a Nawrocki double to plate Wood for the team's first lead of the game, 3-2.
Tulane added an insurance run in the eighth inning on a ground ball that the Lions turned into a double play but allowed pinch runner Julius Ejike-Charles to score from third on and put the score at 4-2 Tulane.
The Lions exploded for four runs to retake the lead in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Zach Wadas, a swinging bunt base hit by Noah Malone and a two-run two out single from Andrew Mhoon.
Next, Tulane plays the series finale against the Lions starting at 3 p.m. CT.
