Adam Core is in his second season with the Green Wave baseball team. He was promoted from Volunteer Assistant to assistant coach in May of 2022. Core's rolls included being the primary catching coach and assisting with hitters and the offense. Core was named a Golden Fungo Finalist in 2021. This award recognizes outstanding work of volunteer assistant coaches throughout all of college baseball.
In his time as the primary catching coach, Core worked most closely with starting catcher Bennett Lee. In Lee's first season under Core he was tabbed American Athletic Conference Newcomer Position Player of the Year, AAC First Team, Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America, Second Team NCBWA Freshman All-America, Second Team American Baseball Coaches Association South All-Region and was named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) College Baseball Team. He finished the year as the program best in batting average (.440) and slugging percentage (.600). He also collected four home runs, 28 RBI and posted an incredible .527 on-base percentage. The freshman catcher posted a 19-game hitting streak during the year, reached base safely in the final 27 games he played in.
Under his direction Tulane caught stealing percentage more than doubled from 13% in 2021 to 28% in 2022.
Core joins the Tulane staff after serving as an assistant coach at Pensacola State for the 2020 campaign where he helped guide the Pirates to 13 wins. Following the season, PSC catcher Allante Hall signed with the Minnesota Twins as a free agent.
Prior to his tenure at Pensacola State, Core spent the 2019 season as a volunteer assistant coach at Southern Illinois University. During his time with the Salukis, Core assisted with the hitting program and served as the primary catchers coach, while also coaching first base.
During his tenure at Southern Illinois, the Salukis ranked fifth in the nation in stolen bases. In addition, SIU players Alex Lyon was named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference team, while Ian Walters earned MVC All-Tournament team honors.
Prior to SIU, he served as a graduate assistant coach at Lincoln Memorial University in the fall of 2018.
In the summer of 2019, Core was the head coach of the Spearfish Sasquatch, a collegiate team in the Expedition League in Spearfish, South Dakota. The Sasquatch finished the season 28-33 (18-11 in the first half) and led the league with 192 stolen bases.
A Nashville, Tennessee native, Core played collegiately at Dyersburg State Community College and Harris Stowe State University. While at HSSU, he was a team captain and Academic All-Conference selection. He graduated magna cum laude from HSSU with a degree in business administration in 2017.
He also coached at the prep level with the Knights Baseball Organization from 2015-18, based out of Nashville where he served as the head coach at one of the nation’s premier travel baseball organizations.
The Tennessee native is married to the former Kate Cowan of Nashville.
