TUCSON, Ariz. - Despite an early lead, the Tulane (5-4) baseball team lost a 4-3 decision to Arizona (11-8) on Friday afternoon.
The Green Wave jumped to an early 2-0 lead on RBI singles hit in the first and third innings by Mickey McKee, but Arizona's Keoni DeRenne reduced the Wave's lead to one with a solo home run to right field in the fourth. The Wildcats took the lead in the bottom of the sixth as Shelley Duncan and Ernie Durazo each sent in a run to give Arizona a 4-2 advantage. Tulane pinch hitter Jay Heintz tried to motivate a Wave rally in the ninth with a single RBI to right field, but the game ended with Ben Diggins' 13th strikeout of the game.
Tulane pitcher Henry Bonilla (1-1) went eight innings and struck out seven. Bonilla gave up four runs, three earned and walked three.
Diggins (4-0) picked up the win for Arizona and remains undefeated in 2000. He struck out a career high 13 and recorded his second complete game of the year.
Leading Tulane at the plate was Jake Gautreau who was 2-for-4, while McKee had a game high two RBI. Wildcats' Duncan was 2-for-4.
