
Tulane Baseball Shoots Down Cincinnati, 15-6

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Tulane's (18-11-1, 5-2-1 C-USA) Barth Melius pitched the first complete game of his career as the Green Wave went on to defeat Cincinnati (19-8, 4-4 C-USA) 15-6 on Saturday afternoon.
The Green Wave took advantage of a shaky Bearcat defense and put six runs on the board in the top of the third inning securing a lead they would never relinquish. Tulane had a 12-0 lead before Cincinnati's Kevin Youkilis hit a home run over the right field fence in the sixth to give the Bearcats their first of the game. UC threatened in the seventh as the Cats scored five runs with two outs, including a grand slam by Matt Singer, but the Wave held on to take game two 15-6.
Melius (3-2) scattered 12 hits through nine innings and struck out three.
For Tulane, Steve Shirley hit the only home run of the day, a shot over the left field fence, which scored two runs. He was 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. James Jurries was 1-for-5 with two RBI while Any Cannizaro was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI.
Mike Miranda (4-2) got the loss for Cincinnati. He went three plus innings, gave up 10 runs and walked three. Rob Reel made his first career appearance and held Tulane scoreless through 2 1/3 innings and gave up only one hit.
The teams play the final game of the series on Sunday at noon (CST). The games are scheduled to be broadcast locally on 88.3 FM WRBH and nationally via www.broadcast.com.
