CINCINNATI - Senior Jared Berkowitz became the winningest pitcher in Tulane (19-11-1, 6-2-1 C-USA) history as the Green Wave completed a three game sweep of Conference USA rival Cincinnati (19-9, 4-5 C-USA) with a 12-5 win on Sunday.
Berkowitz (7-1) went 6 2/3 innings scattered nine hits and struck out seven to pick up the 33 win of his Tulane career. He gave up five runs, four earned before being replaced by Dan O?Gara in the seventh. O?Gara pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief and struck out four of the 10 batters he faced.
As a team, the Wave hit a season high seven home runs and recorded 19 hits. The home run total is the second highest recorded in a single game in C-USA history. Tulane set the record last season as they recorded eight against Cincinnati at Turchin Stadium.
Andy Cannizaro began the game with a first pitch home run off losing pitcher B.J. Borsa (3-2). Steve Shirley was one of two Green Wave players to hit two homers in the game. He was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI. James Jurries had his first multiple home run game of the season. He was 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI. Mickey McKee and Jake Gautreau also went long for Tulane. Jay Heintz was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles.
UC?s Borsa went four innings gave up seven runs and struck out two.
Up next for Tulane is a Tuesday night meeting with Nicholls State at Turchin Stadium. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. The Green Wave travels to Louisiana- Lafayette on Wednesday for a 7: 00 p.m. game against the nationally ranked Ragin Cajuns.
