
No. 24 Tulane Baseball Tops New Orleans, 4-3

METAIRIE, La. - Brandon Belanger picked up his eighth save of the season and secured a 4-3 Tulane win over New Orleans on Tuesday at Zephyr Field.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the ninth, Belanger replaced starting Green Wave pitcher Henry Bonilla and struck out UNO's John Ballon marking the first Wave win over the Privateers this season. Bonilla (5-2) picked up the win as he went 8 2/3 innings, gave up seven hits, three runs and struck out eight.
Tulane put two runs on the board in the first inning as Jake Gautreau and Steve Shirley each sent in a run. UNO knotted the score in the fifth as Ballon hit his ninth home run of the season over the left field wall. Tulane took control of the game in the bottom of the inning as Andy Cannizaro sent in the go ahead run and went on to win 4-3.
On the evening, Gautreau was 2-for-3 with one RBI and Shirley was 1-for-4 with one RBI. Cannizaro scored a pair of runs and recorded one RBI.
The losing pitcher was Shaylar Hatch (3-2). He went 6 1/3 innings gave up five hits, four runs, walked three and struck out one.
UNO's Ballon was 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and a pair of RBI.
Tulane hosts Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday at Turchin Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
