
Baseball Wipes Out UAB, 14-3

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - James Jurries had a perfect 5-for-5 performance to lead Tulane (25-13-1, 10-2-1 C-USA) to a 14-3 win over UAB (16-20, 2-9 C-USA) on Friday evening.
The Green Wave tied a season high 20 hits en route to its eighth straight Conference USA win of the season.
Tulane trailed 2-1 heading into the third but Jon Kaplan hit the first home run of his career to knot the score at two runs each. Tulane went on to out score the Blazers 12-1.
Jurries led the Wave with five hits, two home runs, a triple, four runs and six RBI. This was the second multiple home run game of the season for Jurries. Jake Gautreau was 2-for-5 with three RBI. Kaplan was 3-for-6 with three runs and one RBI. Nick Herz was 2-for-5 with a home run and a pair of runs scored. Also sending runs in for the Wave were Andy Cannizaro, Beau Hearod and Steve Shirley.
Jared Berkowitz (9-1) got the win for the Green Wave and broke the Tulane career record for games started, held by Mike Romano, with 54. Through eight innings he gave up three runs, two earned, struck out six and scattered eight hits. Chris Searle replaced Berkowitz and pitched the ninth inning. He faced three batters and struck out two.
Michael Stallings (3-6) got the loss for UAB as he went six innings gave up 11 hits, seven runs and struck out four.
The teams play game two at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday.
