
Tulane Baseball Drops To South Florida, 19-10

TAMPA, Fla. - The South Florida Bulls (28-26, 14-12 C-USA) posted 14 runs in the fifth inning guaranteeing a 19-10 victory over Tulane (35-18-1, 19-6-1 C-USA) on Saturday.
The Green Wave held an 8-5 lead after 4 ? innings, but South Florida stunned the Wave with 14 runs including a grand slam by Daniel Boyd. Tulane scored two in the sixth but couldn't initiate a sufficient rally.
Tulane starting pitcher Jared Berkowitz (12-2) got his second loss of the season and was replaced in the fifth inning by Matt Foster. Berkowitz went 5 1/3 gave up 15 hits and seven earned runs. He struck out five.
After giving up eight runs in the fifth, Foster settled down and pitched three scoreless innings. He struck out two.
As a team Tulane hit three home runs, including a career high two for Nick Herz. Herz was 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Jake Gautreau was 3-for-5, with one home run and four RBI.
South Florida's John Vigue (10-5) was the winning pitcher. He gave up eight runs, walked one and struck out six. Jimmy Daniels pitched the final three innings and got the save for USF.
The teams play the final game of the weekend series Sunday at noon.
