CHICAGO - All-American candidate Lenae Williams picked a good time to break out of her shooting slump with a game-high 27 points in DePaul's 77-69 win over Tulane on Friday night. Williams led four Blue Demons in double-figures while the inside combination of Teana McKiver and Gwen Slaughter totaled 35 points and 16 rebounds to pace the Green Wave.
In the first six minutes of the game, DePaul (12-7, 5-1 C-USA) built an 18-10 lead only to see the Green Wave cut the margin to 22-21 with just under eight minutes left in the half. From that point, the Blue Demons outscored Tulane (15-6, 3-3 C-USA), 10-2, and went ahead 32-23 on a Sarah Kustok three-pointer with 4:28 on the clock.
The second half opened with a Yolanda Lewis layup sandwiched by four free throws by Williams to give DePaul their biggest lead of the game at 49-34. The lead would get no lower than 10 points until a McKiver layup trimmed DePaul's advantage to 62-54 with 7:34 left in the game. McKiver scored 14 of her 20 points in the second half to lead the Tulane comeback. The Green Wave got as close as four points with just under five mintues to play before DePaul scored 12 of the game's final 20 points.
Four Blue Demons finished the game in double-figures led by Williams' 27 points. Kustok added 12 points and six rebounds while Jamie Smith and Jenni Dant each chipped in 10 points. For Williams, it was her 27th straight game in double-figures while her three three-pointers moved her into a tie for 14th in NCAA history with 291 career treys.
Up next, Tulane completes the weekend road trip at Marquette.
