MILWAUKEE, Wis. - - The Tulane women's basketball team pulled down a season-high 28 offensive rebounds, but came up on the short end of a 65-44 scoreline to host Marquette at the Bradley Center on Sunday.
Tulane lost for the third consecutive game, dropping to 15-7 overall and 3-4 in Conference USA play. Marquette improved to 13-7 and 6-1 in league action.
Despite shooting just 18.4 percent in the first half, Tulane trailed Marquette by just six, 27-21, at the break. The Wave came out strong, scoring the first four points of the half to pull to within two. However, Marquette responded with a 14-2 burst to build a 41-27 lead at the 14:13 mark. From there, Tulane would get as close as 10, but the Golden Eagles outscored the Wave 12-3 over the final 3:30 to claim the 21-point victory.
Playing in the spacious Bradley Center, home the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks, Tulane struggled to score from outside, finishing just 1-of-23 from behind the three-point line. The Wave grabbed 28 offensive rebounds, compared to just nine for Marquette.
"Not take anything away from Marquette, but we just didn't play well tonight," Tulane head coach Lisa Stockton said. "I thought we rebounded well, but that was the only thing we did well. We didn't take bad shots, but we just couldn't get them to fall."
Tiffany Wilson, whose father Michael Wilson played basketball at Marquette before a career with the NBA's Atlanta Hawks, led Tulane with eight points while pulling down six rebounds. Sarah Goree hit the Wave's only three-pointer of the game finishing with five points and a game-high four steals.
Tulane returns to action on Friday, as the Green Wave play host to Conference USA rival Cincinnati at Fogelman Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
