
Volleyball Sweeps SMU for Fifth-Straight Victory

DALLAS - The Tulane volleyball team won its fifth-straight match, and tied its school record for wins away from home with a 3-0 sweep of SMU (30-23, 30-24, 30-23) Friday night at Moody Coliseum. Junior right side Bridget Wells hit .444 with 15 kills, while junior outside hitter Sara Radosevic led Tulane with 16 kills.
Tulane improves to 22-5 overall, 10-2 Conference USA. The Green Wave recorded their 13th road/neutral win this season, equaling the total of the 2002 squad.
Sophomore outside hitter Ksenija Vlaskovic added 12 kills and six digs for the Wave. Defensively, Radosevic led Tulane with 17 digs, with sophomore libero Jenn Miller chipping in 14 digs.
"Sara, usually our offensive leader, really led the way defensively for us tonight, which is a good sign, especially this late in the season," head coach Liz Kritza said. "Bridget was a big time point producer for us tonight, as she was very efficient on offense. I also felt that Lindsey Shepard did a good job of making in game adjustments and had a sound game defensively."
SMU falls to 14-11 overall and 4-7 Conference USA. The Mustangs were led by Kendra Kahanek's 10 kills, while Candice Davis pulled out 18 digs.
Tulane opened to a 13-9 lead in game one following a service ace by Vlaskovic. The Mustangs pulled to within 24-22 before kills from Radosevic and Vlaskovic and the Wave closed out the game with a 6-1 run, with Lindsey Shepard putting home the game-winner.
In game two, the Green Wave led 14-8 early on, before SMU whittled the lead to 16-15.Tulane maintained the lead, as a solo block by Wells gave the Wave a 23-19 edge and started a 5-1 run. Tulane closed the game with a service ace by Luna Rebrovic.
The Mustangs hung around in game three, as a solo block from Kendra Kahanek tied the match at 13-13. SMU took a 16-15 lead for its first lead since 1-0 in game one. But the Wave responded with a kill from Radosevic and a solo block from Shepard for a 23-20 advantage. A Rebrovic ace set up match point and Wells put it away with a kill from the right pin.
Junior setter Luna Rebrovic recorded 25 assists, while sophomore Rachel Lindelow added 27. Wells also chipped in three solo blocks and two assisted blocks, as the Green Wave recorded 8.5 for the match. Shepard recorded four assisted blocks, while adding three kills, and junior middle blocker Jen Linder recorded eight kills.
The road trip continues for the Green Wave with a Sunday tilt at Tulsa at 1 p.m. Tulane and Tulsa will air tape delay on CSTV on Tuesday, October 30 at 9 p.m.
