Baseball Opens Fall Ball on Tuesday, Sept. 15
Sep 14, 2015 | Baseball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane baseball will kick off their fall practices on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium, as the team welcomes a bevy of newcomers who look to join forces with a group of returners who made a trip to the 2015 NCAA Regionals.
Times and dates of practices will fluctuate throughout the course of the period. Media looking to cover practices should contact Curtis Akey in the Tulane Athletics Communication offices prior to arriving at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
The Green Wave student-athletes have participated in conditioning drills and individual workouts, but Tuesday will bring a new facet to their workload as they will practice as a full team for the first time.
Tulane's fall roster is a mixture of talented returning players, transfers with collegiate experience and quality incoming freshman. Twenty-two players who spent time with the Green Wave last year are returning to the diamond, and they will welcome 21 new faces who will be eligible for competition in the spring.
Seven newcomers in redshirt senior infielder/catcher Shea Pierce (Sam Houston State), junior outfielder Jarret DeHart (LSU and Howard College), redshirt-sophomore infielder Matt Rowland (Louisville and Scottsdale C.C.), redshirt senior right-handed pitcher Evan Rutter (Rice), redshirt sophomore right-handed pitcher Chris Oakley (UNC and Florence Darlington Prep), senior left-handed pitcher Christian Colletti (UConn and Indian River State) and redshirt-freshman infielder Chris Hohlstein (Davidson) have spent time at the Division I level prior to coming to Tulane. They will join redshirt junior Jeremy Montalbano (Texas) and redshirt senior right-handed pitcher/outfielder Trevor Simms (Rice, Weatherford College and West Virginia) – who both redshirted in 2015 at Tulane due to NCAA transfer rules – as new weapons with collegiate experience.
Prior to the 2016 season, the Pierce and his staff must pare the roster from 43 to 35 players.
The Green Wave will close out the fall session with their annual Green and Blue World Series. Dates and times for the three-game series have yet to be determined.
