
No. 18 Bowling Fights for Seventh Place Finish at UMES

MILLSBORO, Md. – Tulane bowling notched a seventh-place finish at the UMES Hawk Classic, posting a 10-4 record, 13,919 pin total and 188.1 pin average.

"I am extremely proud of the team's performance over the past couple of days," said head coach Hayley Veitch. "We have won 21 of our last 25 games which is a great achievement. Once we learn how to bowl better on Fridays, we can put ourselves in a position to perform even better. This team has a lot of potential and I can't wait for everything to come together at our home tournament!" Â

The Green Wave went 2-3 on Friday, dropping its first two matches to host No. 11 UMES and No. 20 St. Francis College (N.Y.) before rallying to beat Coppin State and No. 16 Monmouth. The Olive and Blue ended the day with a narrow loss to No. 23 Norfolk State, which put the team in 14th place heading into Saturday.

Tulane had a phenomenal Saturday, winning all six of their traditional matches. The Wave's wins came against No. 13 LIU Brooklyn, No.14 Sacred Heart, Howard, Franklin Pierce, No. 19 Adelphi and No. 15 St Francis College (Pa.). At the end of Saturday, Tulane had improved its record to 8-3, its pin total to 10,316 and its pin average to 187.5. The Wave was seeded eighth heading into Sunday's bracket play.

Tulane dropped its first bracket match of the day against No. 7 Central Missouri before beating No. 14 Sacred Heart and No. 19 Adelphi to finish in seventh place.

No. 6 Sam Houston State earned its third tournament win of the season. The Bearkats recorded a 13-1 record, 15,093 pin total and 204.0 pin average.

Michelle Ng led all Tulane bowlers with a 1,285 pin total and 214.17 pin average, earning a ninth-place ranking among the field. UMES's Thashaina Seraus claimed the top spot with a 1,366 pin total and 227.67 pin average. Â Five Tulane bowlers posted new season highs to help the Wave go undefeated on day two, including Michelle Ng, Kierstyn Rush, Sarah Forton, Joanna Hackett and Claire Turner.

Tulane returns to action on Dec. 2-4 hosting the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational at the AMF All Star Lanes in Kenner, La.
