SAN ANTONIO -Â The (-/RV) Tulane women's basketball team (2-1) will look to get its first win away from home this season when they compete in the UTSA Classic this weekend in San Antonio inside the Convocation Center. The Green Wave will first challenge Eastern Michigan (2-2) on Friday, Nov. 25, at 2 p.m. CT, followed by host UTSA on Sunday, Nov. 27, at 2:15 p.m. Both games can be heard on WRBH 88.3 FM, tracked via live scoring on www.TulaneGreenWave.com or followed on Twitter @GreenWaveWBB. Also would like to announce that Friday's game against Eastern Michigan will be free for all fans.Â
LEADING THE NATION
Though it's a small sample size of three games,Tulane is off to a hot shooting start as their .544 shooting percentage ranks first in the nation. Sophomore Meredith Schulte currently ranks second in The American in field goal percentage, shooting 68.8 percent. She is followed by both Courtnie Latham and Leslie Vorpahl, who are tied for eighth with their .571 shooting percentage. Meanwhile post-players Harlyn Wyatt, Maddison Wells and Ksenija Madzarevic are a combined 19-for-25 from the field.
SAN ANTONIO HOMECOMING
Senior point guard Leslie Vorpahl returns to her hometown, just in time for the holidays. Vorpahl grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and attended Winston Churchill High. Meanwhile, fellow senior guard and Houston native Courtnie Latham returns her home state.
SERIES HISTORY - EMU
• Tulane leads the series, 1-0.
• The Wave won the lone encounter, 71-65, in the Tulane Classic in December of 2012.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
• Eastern Michigan is coming off of an 89-61 loss at Wake Forest. The Eagles are averaging 67.8 ppg, shooting 35.3 percent from the field but just 23.9 percent from beyond the arc.
• Last season, EMU went 22-12, falling in the semifinals of the MAC Championships before reaching the second round of the WNIT.
• Junior guard Sasha Dailey is averaging a team leading 22.5 ppg off the bench, averaging 27.5 minutes per game. Dailey is shooting 43.7 percent from the field and 31.3 percent from three-point range.
SERIES HISTORY - UTSA
• The series is even at 2-2.
• The series dates back to Jan. 31, 1987, in which UTSA won 69-66 in overtime. The Green Wave have won the last two encounters, previously claiming a 68-54 victory in San Antonio in February of 2014.
SCOUTING THE ROADRUNNERS
• UTSA is off to a 1-3 start with their lone win being a 70-44 victory vs Texas A&M-Kingsville. Most recently, UTSA suffered a 77-63 loss at Oregon.
.• The Roadrunners enter the tournament averaging 66.0 points per game on 39.4 percent shooting with a -4.2 scoring margin. Also average 41.0 rebounds per game and 16.3 turnovers.
• Junior guard Loryn Goodwin is averaging a team leading 22.8 ppg on 46.0 percent shooting from the floor.
LATHAM BREAKS LOOSE
Speaking of Latham, the senior broke out in Sunday's win over Southern Miss, scoring 17 points on a career high seven made field goals. Latham made her first four shots from the field before finishing 7-of-9.
MAKING HER 'POINT' AT GUARD
Senior point guard Leslie Vorpahl made history in Tulane's season opening win over Grambling on Nov. 12, setting a new single-game program record of 15 assists. Ashley Langford previously held the top mark with 14 assists set back in both 2006 and 2007. After three games, Vorpahl's 7.7 assists per game ranks 10th in the nation and tied for first in the AAC. In addition, Vorpahl's 23 total assists ranks 21st in the country. Last season, Vorpahl averaged 5.4 assists per game which ranked 35th in the nation and fifth all-time at Tulane
