NEW ORLEANS - (-/RV) The Tulane women's basketball team (11-6, 2-2) looks to carry its momentum from its road win in Dallas over to Saturday's conference match-up at home vs the University of Houston (8-8, 1-2). Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT, streaming live on ESPN3. All fans in attendance will receive a special 'Fogelman in Devlin court designed' rally towel to cheer on the Green Wave.
LAST TIME OUT
• Tulane shot 60.0 percent in the first quarter, building a 40-30 halftime lead at SMU. The Mustangs narrowed the gap to 53-47 at the end of the third but Morgan & Vorpahl scored the team's first 11 of 13 points to help cruise to the 71-59 final.
• Morgan registered her second straight game with 20+ points with 21. Vorpahl netted her third straight in double-digits with 18. Schulte recorded a career high 11 rebounds. Madzarevic tied her career high of eight points.
• Tulane out-rebounded SMU, 36-33. The Mustangs were the second best rebounding team in the league at the time.
SERIES HISTORY - HOUSTON
• Tulane leads the all-time series, 26-13, and have not lost to Houston since joining The American, winners of five straight. In fact, the Wave have won by an averaging scoring margin of 19.4 points.
• Tulane has won nine of the last 10 games. Houston's lone win - a 471-70 double overtime victory in New Orleans.
• Last season, the Wave cruised to a 70-48 victory at home but narrowly escaped with a 59-56 win on the road in Houston.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
• Houston is off to an 8-8 start overall, with a 1-2 mark in conference play. The Cougars began league play with a 71-66 win over Tulsa before falling 85-64 at Cincinnati and 62-48 at home to UCF.
• Houston boasts two players with double-digit scoring averages: Chyanne Butler (10.5) and Jasmyne Harris (10.4). Serithia Hawkins leads the rebounding effort at 7.6 boards per game to go with her 7.5 ppg.
• The Cougars rank 26th nationally in three-point field goal percentage defense at 26.7 percent. Also rank nationally in turnovers forced with their 18.9 per game landing in at No. 69.
AMERICAN GIRL
Vorpahl has certainly been putting her signature stamp on conference play, ranking in the top-15 in nine different categories: 15th in scoring (14.5), 9th in FG% (.500), 3rd in assists (6.3), 13th in steals (1.8), 6th in 3PT FG (2.3), 3rd in 3PT FG% (.500), 8th in A/TO ratio (1.9), 15th in D-Reb. (4.0) and 4th in minutes (37.2).
DOUBLE-DIGIT STREAK
Just two days after being held scoreless for the first time of her career at Middle Tennessee, Morgan erupted for a career high 34 points on a career best 14 made field goals at Vanderbilt on Dec. 5. Morgan has since produced 10 straight games with double-digit points, including five of 20+. Speaking of, Morgan has produced two straight games of 20+ points, averaging 22.0 points on 44.7 percent shooting in that span.
VORPAHL HEATING UP
Vorpahl has recorded double-digit points in seven of the past eight games, including three straight. In the last three games, Vorpahl is averaging 17.7 points on 56.8 percent shooting and a prolific 60.0 (9-of-15) percent shooting from three-point range. As a result, Vorpahl has raised her scoring average from 9.9 to 12.2 ppg.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
In the last three games, Morgan and Vorpahl have combined for 110 points, which equates to 56.4 percent of the team's scoring.
BOARDS OFF THE BENCH
Since coming off the bench, Schulte is averaging 8.5 rebounds, up from her 5.1 season average, including a career high 11 rebounds at SMU on Jan. 11 -- the performance marked her third double-digit rebounding effort this season and allowed the Wave to out-rebound one of the top-rebounding teams in The American, 36-33.
