MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica - Following an impressive 27-point win over Colorado State on Friday in Montego Bay, the Tulane men's basketball looks to push its unbeaten streak to four when the Green Wave meets Fordham for the first time in 18 years in the Jamaica Classic on Sunday evening.
The game is slated for 6:30 p.m. (CT) at the Montego Bay Convention Center and will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.
HISTORY LESSON
• Sunday's game between Tulane and Fordham will be the second all-time meeting between the programs with the only other coming on Nov. 17, 1999 in the Preseason NIT. The Green Wave won that game, 80-69, in New Orleans.
• Tulane's last 4-0 start came during the 2013-14 campaign.
LAST TIME OUT
• Cameron Reynolds led all players with 25 points and Melvin Frazier scored 23 more as the Tulane men's basketball team defeated Colorado State, 80-53, in the Jamaica Classic Friday afternoon.
• The 27-point margin of victory was Tulane's (3-0) largest under second-year head coach Mike Dunleavy, Sr., and the greatest by the Green Wave since a 76-48 win over Appalachian State on Nov. 22, 2015.
• Reynolds shot 8-for-13 and 4-for-8 from the 3-point line to go with four rebounds and three assists, while Frazier was an efficient 8-for-9 from the floor, including 3-for-4 beyond the arc, to complement five boards, four assists, and four steals.
• Ray Ona Embo also reached double-figures for a third straight game with 10 points, as Jordan Cornish handed out a game-high six assists. Samir Sehic contributed eight points, nine rebounds and four assists in 21 minutes off the bench.
• Tulane shot exactly 50 percent in both halves, finishing the game 27-for-54 overall, 12-for-25 (.480) from 3-point range and 14-for-19 (.737) at the free throw line. Colorado State went 22-for-62 (.355) on the day and just 4-for-21 (.190) beyond the arc while making five of seven free throw attempts.
• The Green Wave owned a 15-9 points advantage off turnovers, but was outscored, 28-24, in the paint, 15-2 on second chance baskets and 20-13 off the bench.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
• Picked 13th out of 14 teams in the Atlantic 10 Conference, Fordham enters Sunday's game following a 67-43 loss to Florida State on Friday evening.
• The Rams shot just 12-for-52 (.231) and 1-for-22 (.045) from 3-point range against the Seminoles while being outscored 38-20 in the paint, 21-8 off turnovers, 7-0 on the fast break and 28-5 off the bench.
• Senior guard Will Tavares led all players with 18 points, while junior guard Joseph Chartouny pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for the Rams.
• Chartouny was named third team preseason All-Atlantic 10 for the second time in as many years and to the conference's preseason all-defensive team.
FRAZIER ON FIRE
• Over the last two games, Melvin Frazier is shooting a combined 18-for-22 (.818) from the field and 7-for-10 (.700) from 3-point range while averaging 24.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals per contest. With his influence at both ends of the court, Tulane owns an average margin of victory of 25.0 points in those two games.
REYNOLDS CHASING 1,000 POINTS
• Redshirt senior Cameron Reynolds has scored 965 career points and needs just 35 more to become the 36th player in program history to eclipse 1,000.Â
• The last Tulane player to reach that number was Louis Dabney in 2015-16, who finished with 1,471 points which ranks No. 9 in program history.
DOUBLE-FIGURE SCORING STREAK
• Cameron Reynolds has scored double-digit points in 21-straight games dating back to the 2016-17 season - the longest streak of his career. He reached double-figure points on 27 different occasions last season despite doing so just 10 times in his first two-plus seasons.
