NEW ORLEANS - The (-/RV) Tulane women's basketball team (15-8, 6-4) looks to bounce back from a cold shooting performance on Sunday when they square off against Memphis for the first time this season on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. on ESPN3. Senior point guard Leslie Vorpahl eyes a career milestone, sitting just three assists away from 500. Vorpahl could become just the second player in Tulane history to achieve both 500 career assists and 1,000 career points, following in the footsteps of all-time assist leader, Ashley Langford.Â
LAST TIME OUT
• Tulane shot a season low 25.4 percent vs Temple on Feb. 5, falling 76-50 at home to the Owls.
• Tulane led 26-25 after the first quarter, but only converted three made field goals in the second quarter, followed by just one in the third.
• Vorpahl led with 14 points, followed by 11 points from Morgan.
SERIES HISTORY - MEMPHIS
• Tulane trails the all-time series vs Memphis, 24-19. Thursday marks the first meeting between the two this season.
• Last year, the Tigers won in Memphis, 83-67, but the Wave earned retaliation in the conference tournament, where they emerged victorious by the final of 70-64.
• Kolby Morgan has had great success scoring against the Tigers, earning 23, 15, and 22 points against them over three games in her career, thus averaging 20.0 points.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
• Memphis enters with an 11-12 overall record and 4-6 mark in American play.
• The Tigers are coming off of a big 62-57 win at home over No. 20 USF. Cheyenne Creighton scored 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting.
• Creighton leads the team in scoring & rebounding with her 14.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Creighton is shooting 52.0 percent from the floor.
• Brea Elmore and Taylor Williams also supply double-digit points for the Tigers, averaging 13.5 and 11.3 ppg, respectively.
THE MORGAN TRAIL
Morgan just ended the best streak of her career on Feb. 5 vs Temple, finishing with seven straight games of 20+ points. She is the only player in The American to achieve said feat. In that span, the junior averaged 24.0 points on 47.0 percent shooting. Morgan now has 14 total 20+ performances this season after producing 13 total last season.
Morgan's 19.3 ppg ranks 2nd in The American and 24th in the country. Her 163 total made field goals and 443 total points both rank 24th as well.
Lastly, Morgan has achieved 16 straight games with double-digit points, which bests her previous high of 13 set last season. The streak started just two days after being held scoreless for the first time of her career at Middle Tennessee where she collected her first 30+ point effort with 34 points on 14 made field goals at Vanderbilt on Dec. 5.
REBOUNDING SURGE
Both Kolby Morgan's and Harlyn Wyatt's rebounding production has surged over the last four games. In that stretch, Morgan has reeled in at least 8+ boards in each, averaging 9.5 rebounds. In addition, Morgan grabbed a career high of 12 at Cincinnati on Jan. 28. The junior has since raised her rebounding average from 4.3 to 5.2, which leads the Green Wave. Meanwhile, Wyatt has followed closely behind, averaging 7.3 rebounds over the last four games. In fact, Wyatt has supplied 9.0 points as well, up from her 7.4 season average.
Lastly, Caylah Cruickshank has tied her career high of four rebounds in three of her last four games played.
