STARTING FIVE
1. Tulane enters Saturday's game after falling to Houston the previous Saturday. Tulane led that game against the Cougars by 21 points in the third quarter before Houston fought back to force overtime and win.
2. Kolby Morgan is just 14 points away from 2,000 in her career. The Green Wave senior will become just the third player in team history to record 2,000 points.
3. Morgan scored 30 points in each of her last two games, and that feat earned her the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week honor for the second time this season.
4. Besides Morgan, the Green Wave had three other players score in double figures against Houston. That was the second consecutive game for the Green With four double-figure scorers and the fourth this year.
5. Since joining the AAC for the 2014-15 season, the Green Wave holds a 30-25 record in conference play. Tulane has finished fifth in the league standings during all three of its seasons. Tulane won its only meeting with Wichita State in 2003.
SERIES HISTORY – WICHITA STATE
• Tulane and Wichita State have played just once before in their history.
• That meeting came during the Oakland Tribute Classic in Berkeley, California in December 2003.
• In that game, the Green Wave prevailed by a 62-59 score.
SCOUTING THE SHOCKERS
• The Shockers, based in Wichita, Kansas, are 6-12 on the season and 1-3 in their first year in the American Athletic Conference. They have suffered defeats against Tulsa, Houston and UCF during league play so far and defeated Memphis on Wednesday.
• Rangie Bessard is the team's top scorer with 18.9 points per game. She also leads the way in rebounding at 7.8 boards per game.
• Diamond Lockhart is the team's only other double-figure scorer at 10.1 points per game. The team's wins this year have come against UC Irvine, Missouri State, UMKC, Chicago State, Alcorn State and Memphis.
TULANE IN THE AAC
Since joining the AAC for the 2014-15 season, the Green Wave holds a 30-25 record in conference play. Tulane has finished fifth in the league standings during all three of its seasons. This is Tulane's fourth season in the league after spending the previous 19 seasons in Conference USA.
2,000 ON ITS WAY
If she stays near her season average, Tulane senior guard Kolby Morgan will record her 2,000th career point on Saturday against Wichita State. Morgan enters the game with 1,986 career points and needs just 14 against the Shockers to hit the milestone. Morgan will become just the third player in Tulane history with 2,000 points.
LSWA PLAYER OF THE WEEK AGAIN
For the third time this year, the Louisiana Sports Writer's Association recognized Kolby Morgan for her tremendous play on Tuesday. Thanks to her two 30-point games, Morgan was named the LSWA's Player of the Week. Morgan was previously honored by the LSWA earlier this season, earning the organization's Player of the Week award on December 27 and its Player of the Month award for her stellar play in November.
IT'S AN HONOR
Kolby Morgan has made herself at home on the American Athletic Conference's weekly Honor Roll, as the senior has been placed on the list five times this season. The most recent honor for Morgan came on Monday after a week with back-to-back 30-point efforts against Tulsa and Houston. With this year's five Honor Roll appearances combined with 16 others in her career, Morgan has now been named an AAC Honor Roll recipient 21 times.
30 BACK-TO-BACK
Kolby Morgan reached 30 points for the sixth time in her Tulane career and for the second straight game on Saturday against Houston. Morgan shot 10 of 20 from the field and made a career-high 10 free throws to reach 30 points. She also scored 30 at Tulsa on January 3. Besides those numbers, Morgan nearly reached a triple-double against Houston with nine rebounds and a career-best nine assists. Her performances on January 4 and Saturday marked the first time in her career she had back-to-back 30-point games.
CHEATHAM'S NEW BEST
For the third time in less than a month, Sierra Cheatham set a new personal best for scoring in Saturday's game against Houston. The freshman scored 14 points in the game on 4 of 11 shooting. She also made four free throws, a new career high, and recorded a career-best six rebounds.
FOUL TROUBLE
In Tulane's loss against Houston, four of the Green Wave's starters fouled out by the end of the game. That number is far higher than any game for Tulane this season. In fact, before Saturday, the Green Wave had just three players foul out all year. Capitalizing on Tulane's foul trouble, Houston went to the free-throw line 37 times in the game and made 22 free throws.
FOUR IN DOUBLE FIGURES
For the fourth time this season, Tulane had four players score in double figures in a game during Saturday's game against Houston. Kolby Morgan (30), Kayla Manuirirangi (16), Sierra Cheatham (14) and Meredith Schulte (10) all reached at least 10 points in the Green Wave loss. Tulane also achieved this feat this season on January 3 at Tulsa, December 5 vs. UNO and November 29 at McNeese State.
SHE'S NUMBER SEVEN
Tulane senior guard Kolby Morgan finds herself near the top of the nation's active career scorers list. With 1,986 points in her career as of Wednesday morning, Morgan is the seventh-highest scoring active player in the nation.
Morgan is also 10th in the nation among active players in field goal attempts, 11th in field goals made, 14th in points per game, 19th in steals and 24th in 3-pointers made.
WHERE MORGAN RANKS THIS YEAR
Morgan is already having a stellar year for Tulane, ranking in the top 50 in the nation in multiple categories. As of Wednesday morning, Morgan is ninth in the country in total points with 352, 11th in points per game at 22.0, 37th in 3-pointers made with 45, 23rd in made field goals with 119 and 27th in field goal attempts with 257.
