Final Invitational Results
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane bowling went 1-2 on Sunday to finish fifth overall at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational. Tulane ended the tournament with an 8-5 record while knocking down 12,217 total pins for a 185.1 pin average.
"I was impressed with how the matches were that they were close. That was the positive for the day, but we have a lot of work to do, and the girls know that," head coach Hayley Veitch said. "This tournament was there to be a learning experience. In two weeks' time we'll be ready for the Sam Houston Tournament. We'll be shooting a lot of spares and getting ready."
Tulane entered Sunday's bracket seeded third, drawing a first round matchup against Louisiana Tech, the eventual tournament champions. The Wave came up short against the Bulldogs, dropping the match 4.5-1.5 (192-198, 199-199, 175-213, 211-203, 177-203, 160-170). The Olive and Blue was then swept by North Carolina A&T in round two (202-203, 180-187, 185-189, 144-158) before bouncing back against UAB. The Wave bested the Blazers 4-2 (181-200, 201-197, 182-171, 230-244, 187-157, 186-156) to claim fifth.
Louisiana Tech won the tournament, beating Stephen F. Austin 4.0-3.5 in the championship game. North Carolina A&T rounded out the top-three with a win over reigning champs Sam Houston State.
Kendra Tryniski from Valparaiso was named the tournament MVP after knocking down 1,024 pins. Tryniski was joined by Louisiana Tech's Ashley Channel, Texas Southern's Summer Salak, and Stephen F. Austin's Dakotah Hazlewood and Paige Beeney on the All-Tournament Team.
"This has been the best tournament that we have put on in seven years, even though it hasn't been the best personally for us as a team. Colonial Lanes went above and beyond what we expected from them," remarked Veitch.
Bowling will return to action November 2-4 when the squad travels to Houston for the Track Kat Klash hosted by Sam Houston State.
