Tom Curtis Memorial Regatta Results
WASHINGTON, DC – Tulane sailing competed in six races on Sunday to close out the Tom Curtis Memorial Regatta, earning a fifth-place finish among six teams on the water.
"Today was another solid day overall. As a team, we gained a bit on the teams in front of us," head coach Charles Higgins said. "This venue has a fair bit of current, which is something we don't get to practice in. We certainly made some mistakes but our learning curve is steep and we made some great adjustments."
The Green Wave's three teams tallied 459 points in 14 races, defeating Old Dominion with 562 while falling to Georgetown with 270, Navy with 332, George Washington with 340 and St. Mary's on 417.
"Each boat made some noticeable improvements today, but we are still learning how to be consistent through a long series," Higgins said. "These lessons will pay off huge dividends by the time our conference and national championships come around next semester."
The lineup remained consistent throughout the weekend, with freshman skipper Ciara Rodriguez-Horan and senior crew Grace Bloomfield teaming up to sail the Division A races. The two held their sixth-place spot to finish with a total of 111 points, earning four top-ten finishes on the final day of competition.
Junior skipper Connor Mcavoy and sophomore crew Kate Lenhard sailed the Division B races, totaling 157 points to earn a 14th place finish among 18 teams. The duo grabbed one top-ten finish on the final day of the regatta, checking in at sixth in the 12th race.
Senior skipper Harris Cram and freshman crew Bamboo Trinh had a solid performance in their final six races, owning back-to-back fifth and seventh place finishes to total 191 points.
Tulane will remain on the road again next weekend, sailing in the two-day Women's Showcase Finals on Saturday and Sunday.
