
Green Team Takes First Two in Angry Wave World Series

New Orleans – Through two games of the Angry Wave World Series, the Tulane Green team has taken a 2-0 lead in the five-game series, earning a 16-1 win on Tuesday and 4-1 win Friday at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

In the series opener, the Green team produced 16 runs on 16 hits, scoring six runs in the first inning to take a big lead before scoring five more in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth. In the second game, the Blue team keep things close for much of the contest until a three-run fifth inning put the game out of reach.

Over the course of the two games the Green side has produced all 20 of its runs on 23 hits, while the pitching staff has kept the Blue team to its only two runs of the series so far eight base knocks.

A trio of batters finished with at least three hits in the first game for the Green team, led by David Bedgood who drove in six going 3-for-4 with a double and run scored. Frankie Niemann drove in three on his three hits and scored three times, while Logan Stevens had an RBI and scored once.

Josh Bates earned the win on the mound, allowing the Blue team's only hit of the game in three innings of work while striking out four and walking two. Chris Koppenhaver suffered the loss, on the hook for three runs in that first inning after only recording one out.

The Blue team finally broke through in the top of the sixth, as Stephen Sepcich brought in Sal Gozzo on a fielder's choice.

In the bottom of the first inning, Luke Glancy singled to left center to drive in Koby Owen to give the Green team a 1-0 lead in game two of the series on Friday.

A double by Ty Johnson with an out on the board put a runner on board for the Blue team in the top of the third inning. Johnson eventually moved to third on a grounder to first and crossed the plate on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.

After an inning and a half of scoreless ball, the Green team plated three on three hits to retake the lead and hold on to it for the rest of the contest. Six players combined for the Green team's seven hits on the afternoon.

Niemann led the Green team at the plate going 2-for-3, while Aaron McKeithan drove in two and scored once. Gozzo had two of the Blue team's seven hits, with five other players producing hits on the day.

Keagan Gillies and Kaleb Roper each earned the start for their respective sides, as Gillies allowed one run on four hits in four innings of work, striking out two and walking one. Roper went 3.1 innings and allowed a run on three hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

Connor Pellerin wound up earning the win, pitching three scoreless innings where he allowed just three hits while fanning six, while Ross Massey suffered the loss as he allowed three runs on two hits with a walk in 0.2 innings of work.

The remaining three games of the Angry Wave World series are set for Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday of this week, as all games are free and open to the public.
