NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane sailing team will make its varsity home debut this weekend in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Regatta, setting sail on Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m., weather depending, out of the Municipal Yacht Harbor on Lake Pontchartrain.
The Green Wave hit the water in New Orleans following a successful weekend in Galveston, Texas, in which freshman skipper/crew Ciara Rodriguez-Horan won the SEISA Women's Singlehanded Championship title to earn a spot to compete in the ICSA Women's Singlehanded Championship in November.
Freshman skipper Luke Schumann finished fourth in the SEISA Coed Singlehanded Championship in his first collegiate competition, while Tulane as a team recorded a fourth place finish in the Troy Swetman Regatta to start off the season.
This weekend, the Green Wave will host Georgia Tech, Jacksonville University, North Carolina State, South Florida and Stanford. Each school will send three teams to compete in the Division A, B and C races, with the lowest combined score among the 18 fleet-style races in each division determining the tournament champion.
All of the competing schools are members of the SAISAÂ (South Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association) Conference, excluding Stanford, a team that competes within the PCCSC (Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference).
