Nov 10, 2019 | Sailing
SANTA BARBARA, California – Ciara Rodriguez-Horan and Cameron Giblin wrapped up action in the LaserPerformance Singlehanded Nationals on Sunday, concluding Tulane sailing's fall season.
"Today was a much better day for the Green Wave. We wanted to come out and fight with pride today and we showed that fight all day," head coach Charles Higgins said. "These may be individual championships, but we could not have gotten to this point without the entire team pushing hard. We will take a break for the winter, and I can't wait to come back in the spring to see what more we can accomplish this season."
Giblin had an impressive performance on the water in his final four races, finishing in the top-10 in all of the races while recording a best third-place finish to total 187 points and beat sailors from Wisconsin and Washington.
"Cameron [Giblin] had the fifth best record on the day and really showed that when he's on, he can compete with anyone," Higgins said.
Rodriguez-Horan maintained her 15th-place finish in the competitive regatta, totaling 195 points after 14 total races to defeat sailors from Jacksonville, Ohio and Wisconsin.
"In the women's division, Ciara [Rodriguez-Horan] put herself in some great positions in each race," Higgins added. "Unfortunately she was over the starting line just a moment too early in each of the last two races and had to battle back from last in each."
Leo Boucher from St. Mary's won the men's regatta, followed by Richard McCann from Miami and Gage Schoenherr from Coast Guard. Boston College's Sophia Reineke finished first on the women's side, followed by Stanford's Christina Sakellaris in second and Jacksonville's Charlotte Rose in third.
With their final fall regatta in the books, the Green Wave are set to have a few months off before heading back out on the water for the team's second spring season as a varsity program.
