
Sailing Hosts Nelson Roltsch Regatta to Open Spring Season

NEW ORLEANS — The Tulane sailing team is back in action this weekend, kicking off its spring season at home in the Nelson Roltsch Team Race on Lake Pontchartrain.
The Green Wave will welcome seven teams in their first regatta of 2020, including USF, Texas, Navy, UC Santa Barbara, Jacksonville, College of Charleston and Wisconsin.
Sailing is set to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with each team expected to sail in 21 total races in three respective rounds, weather depending.
Tulane heads into its spring campaign nationally ranked, as the women rank 15th and the coed quad ranks 20th, per the most recent Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) poll. Navy's coed team is currently ranked eighth in the country and it's women's team 11th, while Charleston's coed program ranks ninth and it's women's team fifth.
Sailing the skipper position this weekend for the Olive and Blue is freshman Cameron Giblin, sophomore Ciara Rodriguez-Horan freshman Caroline Benson and freshman Quinn Keenan. Sophomore Amelia Schofield, junior Katie Cartiglia, senior Josie Larkin, sophomore Grace Siwicki, junior Kate Lenhard, freshman Lydia Brown, freshman Kit Stoll, senior Stephen Hahn and Keenan are set to crew the three boats in the team races.
In last year's Nelson Roltsch Regatta, Tulane finished sixth of eight teams in its first varsity season on the water. The home team defeated Texas and Miami University, improving significantly from Saturday to Sunday while coming just short of knocking off Stanford in one of the final races.
