Ladyjack Hammer Classic up Next for Bowling
Nov 14, 2019 | Women's Bowling
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The No. 14 Tulane bowling team looks to continue its streak of top 10 team finishes as the Green Wave head to Kenosha, Wisconsin, to take part in the 2019 SFA Ladyjack Hammer Classic this weekend at Sheridan Lanes.
Â
The 15-team event gets underway on Friday morning with five five-game Baker contests, moving on to Saturday's five traditional team matches. The total pinfall for both days will determine the placings for the bracket finals on Sunday, with a best 4-out of-7 Baker competition determining the team champion and final standings.
Â
"It's going to be a stacked field as usual, but the one thing we've talked about leading up to this is knowing what it takes to compete against the teams who may be below us or the ones that are above us who we want to beat," head coach Hayley Veitch said. "I think we're all on the same page about how we go about having a successful weekend, and that starts with us and focusing on our execution and having fun."
Â
Tulane comes into the event with a 15-11 record through two tournaments, placing seventh at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational in October and eighth at the Track Kat Klash two weeks ago in Houston. Baker matches have been solid for the Green Wave, as the team has gone 8-2 in opening-day contests, while going 4-2 on the final day to finish strong.
Â
The Green Wave have a team average of 182.12 in traditional matches, having knocked down 9,106 pins in 50 total games among the seven bowlers on the squad. Senior Isabelle Lee leads the team in average with a mark of 195.88, having an individual season-high game of 257. Junior Madison McCall has knocked down the most pins in the group with 1,838, averaging 183.8 so far this season.
Â
Seven of the top 10 teams in the country will be on hand for the Hammer Classic, including each of the top five teams in the country in Vanderbilt, host Stephen F. Austin, McKendree, Nebraska and Sam Houston State. The other teams from the top 10 are Arkansas State and Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Top 25 is rounded out by Tulane, Maryville, Saint Francis, Youngstown State and Adelphi.
Â
The rest of the tournament teams are Elmhurst College, Marian University and Upper Iowa. Â
