Nov 17, 2019 | Women's Bowling
KENOSHA, Wisc. – The Tulane Bowling team earned six wins and got a handful of solid individual finishes as the Green Wave finished 11th at the 2019 Ladyjack Hammer Classic hosted by Stephen F. Austin in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The Green Wave knocked down a total of 13,041 pins at the three-day event, finishing with a pin average of 194.6 in 67 total games.
"Our finish position definitely didn't reflect how we bowled this tournament. We progressed in our single pin percentage and strike percentages," head coach Hayley Veitch said. "The scoring pace was higher than we have seen in the past couple of tournaments and for the most part we kept up with it."
Freshman Amelia Vasquez led the Tulane contingent individually, finishing 17th overall by knocking down 1,024 pins to finish the tournament with a pin average of 204.80. Sophomore Crystal Singh finished 23rd overall and knocked down 1,010 pins for an average of 202.
Madison McCall finished 37th and knocked down 951 pins for a pin average of 190.20. Lone senior Isabelle Lee had the highest game among the group, rolling a 255 game on Saturday.
Tulane opened the finale day on Sunday taking on Adelphi and kept things close, eventually falling 4-1, 186-166, 215-188, 197-180, 200-202, 293-153. In the next contest Tulane went to the wire with Maryville, as the opposition narrowly edged out the Green Wave 4-3, 225-193, 210-178, 187-177, 199-243, 172-200, 188-205, 191-173.
The Green Wave were able to close the tournament on a strong note, defeating Saint Francis in 4-1, 229-205, 200-170, 169-214, 213-183, 191-176.
Tulane opened the event with a 3-1 record, as on Friday the Green Wave knocked down 4,861 pins for a 194.4 pin average to sit in eighth place after day one.
The team opened the tournament with a close victory over Marian University with an 879-847 decision, improving in the second match in a big way knocking down 1,020 pins to pull out the victory over Wisconsin-Whitewater who knocked down 925.
Tulane suffered its only defeat of the day coming at the hands of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, falling 1,036-959. Due to the uneven number of teams in the tournament, the team came off of a bye match and ended Friday with a 1,040-939 win over conference rival Youngstown State.
The Green Wave upped its pin average on Saturday as the team knocked down 4,917 pins in the traditional matches, sitting in ninth place by the end of the competition day. Tulane improved its average to 195.6 after going 2-3 in the traditional matches.
Against Maryville, Tulane fell 1,022-939 and to McKendree 1,075-1,033 in the first two matches Saturday, but against Southland member Arkansas State, the Green Wave rolled one of its highest games of the season by defeating the Red Wolves 1,065-976. After falling to Sam Houston State 1,048-990, Tulane closed the day with a 893-766 win over Upper Iowa.
