Bowling Closes 2019 at Hawk Classic
Nov 21, 2019 | Women's Bowling
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Tulane bowling team returns to action this week as the No. 14 Green Wave head to Millsboro, Delaware, to take part in the 2019 Hawk Classic hosted by Maryland Eastern Shore.
Â
The tournament gets underway Friday morning with five five-game Baker matches, moving to Saturday's traditional matches and Sunday's bracket finals.
Â
The Green Wave head into the final competition of 2019 looking to improve upon their 11th place finish last weekend at the SFA Ladyjack Hammer Classic in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Tulane has a pair of top 10 finishes this season, finishing seventh at their home tournament and eighth at the tournament hosted by Sam Houston State.
Â
"This tournament allows us to play teams we don't usually get to face during the year, but its another pretty stacked field this weekend," head coach Hayley Veitch said. "We did really well last weekend with our sparing and strike percentages and it's something we'll need to continue to have in this tournament as well."
Â
Tulane is 21-17 overall on the year in competitions, with an 11-3 record in opening-day Baker matches, while going 5-4 in bracket finals on the last day. Â
Â
Junior Madison McCall has knocked down the most pins in individual matches through three tournaments this year, with 2,789. Senior Isabelle Lee has the highest pin average with a mark of 199.76, knocking down 2,597 pins which is second on the team this year.
Â
Freshman Amelia Vasquez earned her second top 20 individual finish last week in Wisconsin, placing 14th in the field after having a pin average over 200 and knocking down over 1,000 pins through the team's five matches on Saturday.
Â
This weekend's tournament will be the biggest to date for the team this year, featuring 18 teams vying for the Hawk Classic title. Of the 18 along with the Green Wave, the field features 15 teams that are ranked in the NTCA Top 25.
