2019 Track Kat Klash Final Results
HOUSTON, Texas – The No. 14 Tulane bowling team returned to the lanes this weekend and came away with an eighth-place finish at the 2019 Track Kat Klash hosted by Sam Houston State in Houston.
The Green Wave finished the event knocking down 12,509 pins for a pin average of 184.0. Tulane finished the event with a 7-6 overall record.
"Although this weekend wasn't our best performance, we did show some progress from our last tournament," head coach Hayley Veitch said. "We were competitive in some matches and had disappointing finishes in others. Our shot repeatability wasn't where it needs to be to conquer the tough lane conditions we were faced with."
Tulane was led by senior Isabelle Lee, who was one of three players to individually finish in the top 50 spots after Saturday's action. Lee had a pin average of 197.6 and knocked down 988 total pins. Sophomore Crystal Singh placed 19th with 968 pins knocked down and an average of 193.60.
Junior Madison McCall was 27th overall with 939 pins knocked down and a pin average of 187.80. Freshman Jenica Baron rolled the highest game for the team with a 251 score against Sam Houston State in the first traditional match of the day.
The Green Wave had to climb out of a tough hole to start the bracket finals against Louisiana Tech on Sunday, dropping the first two games before storming back to win 4-3 (124-208, 167-177, 194-175, 197-159, 221-182, 225-232, 185-176).
Tulane moved on to face Stephen F. Austin, as the Ladyjacks proved to be too much and won the contest 4-0 (207-145, 189-172, 223-156, 201-192). In the final bracket match of the day, Tulane and Duquesne traded wins before the Dukes were able to string consecutive wins to pull out the finale 4-3 (188-235, 177-165, 181-197, 173-169, 174-201, 277-178, 194-157).
The Green Wave couldn't have asked for a better start to the weekend, going 4-1 on Friday to open the tournament and knocking down 4,523 pins for a pin average of 180.9 to sit in ninth place after day one of competition.
Against local rivals Southern, Tulane earned a 859-815 victory to begin Friday with a victory and followed that up with a definitive victory over the Texas Southern Tigers by rolling a 907 to TSU's 763.
Against a top-10 North Carolina A&T squad, Tulane edged out the Aggies with a 920-890 win to move to 3-0 on the day. The squad rolled its best match of the day with a 969-924 win over Duquesne, falling just short in the finale to Nebraska 916-868.
Tulane was able to move up a spot in the standings after a strong Saturday, improving to eighth place after knocking down 4,706 pins and upped the team's overall average to 183.2.
The host Sam Houston State Bearkats won a thriller in the opening traditional match, outdueling the Green Wave 1,027-991, but Tulane bounced back by defeating Jackson State 951-800.
Upper Iowa got the best of Tulane in the next contest by a final score of 848-832, but again the squad was able to rally and got one of its highest totals of the season in a 1,023-970 win over conference rival Arkansas State. In the final match, Youngstown State bettered Tulane with a 969-909 victory as Tulane finished 2-3 on day two.
Nebraska won the tournament title, with McKendree finishing second, Arkansas State third, Sam Houston State fourth and North Carolina A&T fifth.
Tulane will be back in action Nov. 15-17, taking part in the SFA Stormin Ladyjack Classic in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
