No. 17 Beach Volleyball Defeats Missouri State 3-2, Goes 1-1 Saturday

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 17 Tulane beach volleyball team (3-6, 0-4 CCSA) went 1-1 on day two of the Horned Frog Challenge, defeating Missouri State 3-2 after falling to No. 16 Georgia State 2-3.
"This was a challenging weekend for our team and our players," head coach Wayne Holly said. "We played in the worst weather conditions I've experienced for beach volleyball in 25 years. We made it through and are turning our sights forward."
Now 4-0 on court one in the weekend tournament, juniors Kaylie McHugh and Eva Torruella defeated Missouri State's Ivy Reynolds and Mikaela Mosquera in straight sets, 21-15 and 21-17.
The pair also earned the come-from-behind win over Georgia State's Eden Hawes and Georgia Johnson, dropping the first set 21-23 before winning the second with a 21-19 score to force a third set of action and ultimately earn the 15-13 win.
Sophomores Rio Frohoff and Lauren Orlich continued with their success in the No. 2 spot, teaming up to take down Missouri State's Julia Hanson and Chloe McDaniel in two sets, 21-14 and 21-13. The duo also earned the win over Georgia State's Maddy Delmonte and Olivia Stasevich, falling in the first set 13-21 before coming back to take the next two with 21-19 and 16-14 scores.
Sophomore Haley Gibson and junior Tarin Mergener took the sand for the first time together this season, recording a two-set victory over MSU's Sam Brinkmann and Sydney LeMay in the No. 3 spot with 21-19 and 21-13 scores.
The Green Wave stay on the road following their weekend tournament, heading to Hattiesburg, Mississippi for a midweek double header against Southern Mississippi on Tuesday, competing at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
