NEW ORLEANS – Less than a week after facing off, the Tulane baseball team will open a run of games on the road beginning Tuesday night with a meeting against the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns at 6:30 p.m. at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
Â
The game will be televised live on CST and streamed on ESPN+. Todd Graffagnini will be providing radio coverage on WRBH 88.3 FM locally in New Orleans.
Â
The Green Wave will be putting their five-game winning streak on the line when they take on the Ragin Cajuns, as the team is coming off a perfect week of play capped with its second sweep of an opponent in the HBU Huskies over the weekend at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. With the three wins Tulane improved its record to 17-7 on the season and 14-6 at home.
Â
Tulane's offense throughout the season has been tough for opposing pitching staffs to deal with through much of the year, but it was the Green Wave stable of pitchers that stole the show over the course of the last five games in striking out 62 batters and walking just seven, allowing just eight runs during that span.
Â
In a pair of close games to pull out the series and clinch the sweep this weekend, Tulane got solid production from the starters as well as the relief in key situations to keep the game close or hold off comeback bids by the Huskies. In the four wins, Tulane had a staff ERA of 1.89, netting a pair of saves in the process.
Â
The Green Wave offense was still no slouch, outscoring their opponents 19-8 and out-hitting both teams 32-24. Of those 32 hits, 15 were for extra bases with 11 doubles and four home runs against the Cajuns and Huskies.
Â
Junior Kody Hoese continues to pace the Tulane offense in a host of categories, ranking nationally in the top 10 in home runs, home runs per game, slugging percentage and total bases. He and Trevor Jensen both rank in the top 30 in the country in hits with 38 and 36, respectively.
Â
Sophomore Frankie Niemann leads the team in batting average with a .417 mark, while infielder Grant Mathews came up big in the four games last week in leading the team with six hits and a .400 average at the plate, knocking a pair of doubles and scoring twice. Mathews' game-winning hit in the 11th was the second time he's aided in a walk-off effort, having a sac fly RBI to defeat George Washington earlier this season.
Â
Freshman Krishna Raj is in line for a second consecutive start against the Cajuns on Tuesday, as last week he held Louisiana-Lafayette to three runs on five hits and striking out four in 5.1 innings. Â
Â
With the win last week, the all-time series between the Green Wave and Ragin Cajuns stands at a tie with each side winning 46 games.
Â
Louisiana-Lafayette comes into the game with an 11-14 record, dropping two of three over the weekend to Appalachian State in a Sun Belt weekend series in Lafayette. Â
